GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Yes, inevitably they reinvent the bus, or the train. Buses seem like an excellent case for automation given their relatively fixed routes.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I agree and disagree at the same time, claiming transit will help with congestion is indeed commonly done, and ineffective, but there is one major benefit I believe you are looking, and that is that it increases the overall capacity of the transportation system. An area depends not just on...

    Hamilton Toronto | Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, and this is just more trifling with the City of Hamilton. After all design work is done, and the undertaking is well on its way, then we can be optimistic that it shall be done. Before that, I recommend we do not get our hopes up, lest they be dashed be...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

The City of Brampton is so ineffectual at communication, that it makes one wonder if they are that callow, or whether it is deliberate obfuscation.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

The current interest rate is below inflation, as long as the government doesn't spend the money on something as daft as widening highways, building new highways, or truly horrible transit projects like the Scarborough Subway Extension, the growth will shrink the debt to GDP ratio.

    Toronto Pearson International Airport

I don't think you quite grasp the situation, the airport PILTs only increase by a maximum of 5% a year, however they can fall unlimited percent, which means Mississauga very well may have the payment fall by 80%. If passenger volume falls 80% from 2019 to 2020 which would take over 30 years at...

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

The City of Brampton is already contracted by the Town of Caledon to provide the 81 Mayfield West to Mayfield West. A possible reason Brampton Transit wasn't selected for the Bolton bus is because Caledon didn't want to pay what it'd cost to have a bus run out of the Brampton Transit Clark...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

A toll could be configured in such a way to facilitate long distance travel, such as a $5 entry fee, and only a 5¢ per km charge. This would result in a relatively low cost per km for a long distance trip, but strongly disincentivize local, non-business travel.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Good day ladies and gentlemen, I heard there was curiosity of what might happen to Bramalea GO, if this is an inappropriate venue for posting, I am sure ShonTron will tell me, and I can start a new thread (or post in a different thread, as might be deemed appropriate). So, to start with, last...

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

You could make the congested areas of the 401 a double decker freeway, and it'd still get congested, the demand is simply too great. Significantly increasing capacity will just cause the chokekepoints to move to on and off ramps, plus on nearby streets and roads. Toll it and improve train...

    Brampton Transit/Zum

The general service hour increase was also deferred to 2021, making this the first year in more than a decade with no additional service hours.

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

Indubitably They managed to reach an agreement for Brampton to service Mayfield West with a new bus line. If Caledon wants transit, they can pay for it. Brampton Transit would be superior to the Voyago service Caledon chose, because Brampton Transit would include Caledon in on the BT transfer...

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

Nothing prevents Caledon from contracting out transit services to Brampton Transit. Once the new BT MSF on Highway 50 is open, it'd be even easier to contract Bolton service to Brampton.

    Transit Ridership Statistics & Tracking

Brampton Transit now is designing the 2021 budget with the expectation that ridership will hit 60% of 2019 by the start of 2021, and increase by 5% each quarter thereafter. Source is the Committee of Council Agenda this Wednesday.

Roads: Highway 401 Widening - Highway 8 to Highway 410 (MTO, U/C, Planned)

The other reason trucking has taken over a significant portion of freight movement is because trucking is heavily subsidized, it pays nowhere near as much as it should for air pollution or road wear. Meanwhile rail companies have to pay to maintain their own roads, and even pay property taxes on it.

    Mississauga Toronto | Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

There are five city owned parking facilities, downtown, and when I asked them if the parking garages have ever reached 95% full, they couldn't say. And the parking facilities are already heavily subsidized at only $308 a year, with most of it being used by employees who receive a further 50%...
