    Now that the closing date has passed (May 10th) when can we expect an announcement about the winning architect firm? I am really hoping for Claude Cormier based on what we got for Berczy. This feels very 50/50 in terms of ending up like Berczy or otherwise Sherbourne common based on the...

    Yes, I'm aware. I said Chicago's GDP was higher :) . When I mentioned that Toronto's has climbed, I was referring to where the city was in the 1880's.

    I mean, I think Toronto was relatively poor in comparison to Chicago between 1880 - 1900 when a lot of those iconic skyscrapers were built. So yes, cheap in comparison. Although when we razed half the buildings downtown for parking lots, that didn't help either. Certainly, Toronto has climbed...

    I was thinking the same thing. But hopefully the brick goes high up enough that the average pedestrian will not notice the White panels.

    I feel like that little parcel of land the tree is on is going to be too irresistible for some not to walk through the water feature to sit on 😅.

    @Fresco remodels the Toronto waterfront

    I actually think this would be worse - even less public space and more of a wall between the waterfront and downtown. Animate the space underneath and put some real $$$ into bringing waterfront themes up to it. Make it a true destination unto itself.

    Yeah I agree and tbh, if they are able to replicate the success of the bentway across the entirety of the Gardiner I'm actually excited about what kind of public space it could become!

    I mean let's call a spade a spade. This is going to be a prestige project for upper income earners only. It's not going to do a thing about housing affordability.

    I think the reason no one answered your previous question about this is because it's really hard to estimate at this point. 52%? 38%? It's almost certain that the development will go through multiple additional rounds of iterations but if you're looking for some sort of concrete guess it's going...

    Looks a bit boring to me (the “cat park”). Wasn’t there going to be some water feature? Seems restrained.

    Sorry if thats the vibe 🤷‍♂️ but they literally asked if they were the "the only one that doesn't like the design of the towers?" and the answer is no lol. It was debating in depth over the last few weeks a page or two back. Lots of opinions similar and opposite.

    This POV was debated recently, pages ~439 - 440.

    What a bizarre push to try and police people’s opinions. If someone says it looks better at a distance, take it at face value and let it be.

    I wonder what the fate for the spaces at 106 - 114 are then. All the ones facing queen look to be shut down. Would be great to inject some new spots here, maybe a nice new coffee shop or restaurant.

    Agree. This stretch needs some animated retail if it’s going to become a place people actually want to spend some time.

    I biked by last night and the restaurant space looked even better at night lit up. Very New York vibe. That combined with the illuminated waterworks sign and the redone park are really making this area quite nice. Ill try and get a pic next time.

    In the wise words of @smably , reminder that we have a Shabby Public Realm thread for this endlessly rehashed topic. Personally, I think calling those streets in their entirety absolute trash is a bit hyperbolic but again, there' s a thread above to discuss more.

    Walk through LKF in Hong Kong and you’ll see even more than what we have 😅.
