Absolutely delicious on page 8 of the above document to see the province's negligence to follow the requirements of the law itemized like a failing report card.

Especially because that side will be highly visible pretty much indefinitely right next to Mirvish + Gehry unless the corner warehouse building at John and King is eventually developed into another tower.

Ford and his government are so used to living in a reality where they just get to do whatever they want, screw everyone else, and just bulldoze through (or threaten to use the notwithstanding clause when they get pushback against their craven and shameful undermining of our democracy) so it's...

Not sure, I just grabbed these screenshots during the presentation.

More slides from the presentation below. I wasn't able to stay around for the questions, but caught most of the opening presentation. Very much like and appreciate the warm brick precast and solid materiality. The full stretch along Bloor is retail, which I'm glad for particularly in contrast...

That's a nice way to think about it! I'll try to think of it that way too. The weirdness and unexpectedness of the top may even make them more unique or iconic over time.

My one thing with this building isn't so much that I wish they were taller (although that would have been nice too, so their incredible texture in our city isn't blocked as much by future development), but that the diamonds went up another section and the crown resolved in a different way. It...

I think the City can be a bit too strict and hyperfocused on shadowing in some situations, but, respectfully, I think this argument is ridiculous. We shouldn't sacrifice our green spaces because of the pandemic (they're needed more than ever, and will be for our ever-hotter climate change...

Unless the average age of the forum is like 70+, I think this is a wildly pessimistic and unwarranted view. I think it's definitely unfortunate that this happened and it will likely sit undeveloped for a little while longer, but "till most of us are long gone"... I don't think so. This is a...

Well, this should take it to the time of the full legal arguments on Wednesday at least, so that is good. Small sliver of hope.

100% — the relative lack of partisan influence on our justice system is a major difference between Canada and the US and a strength of our country. I hope that continues to be the case, and Justice Diamond is likely a completely honest and ethical judge! That said, the Harper government was the...

The judge is a Harper government appointee FWIW. Not to say necessarily that the judge is biased, he may not even be a conservative at all and they may have a solid legal argument for why the injunction is not warranted, but I'd love to see the specifics of their legal argument. And I don't...

Giving away an opportunity to sell market condo to a private developer, destroying a heritage asset in the process, with no communication or justification given and no transparency seems like plain as day corruption to me. I'm not sure if there's anything actually illegal about it, but it's galling.

Yes, some councillors would likely be doing the opposite and complimenting the boots of the people coming in to kick us. But yeah I'm also impressed with her moving this forward in a logistical way to stop this — not just speaking out against it, which is of course good too — but effectively...

Thanks for the info and that's good to know — I hope it comes back to bite them. It seems like a stupid move (unsurprisingly) on the part of the province — only likely to anger the judge, unless they are able to demolish the entire complex by tomorrow, which seems unlikely.

I am not a lawyer, but couldn't this kind of action (continuing and accelerating demolition) be seen disfavourably by the judge?

Shoutout to Councillor Wong-Tam for great leadership on this.

So with regards to height and density, does this site fall under the province's new rules for development close to transit stations (in this case the upcoming Ontario Line)?

    Toronto Toronto | West Don Lands: Blocks 17 & 26 | 141m | 43s | Aspen Ridge | Core Architects

What a pathetic display by our province. In the middle of a state of emergency lockdown, they arrogantly come in without consulting with the community at all and start punching holes in a heritage resource that means something to the community and the city. Let's hope the injunction is granted...

Wow. That degree of minimal affordability in this development is shockingly low even by my already through the floor low standards of what to expect. And handing this off to a developer to make $$$ here on market condo is absolutely wrong and should be a scandal. You'd think they'd have the...
