For sure, but I expect that after more if this goes up in the area, it’ll increase as a dense power node and the momentum will bring some bigger projects.

Same with 9th street in Bridgeland. There have been some sweet successes for Calgary in the past decade.

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

My crystal ball readings. I see Toronto hitting 10M buy 2044 did to the metro borders expanding and hauling another million or two. Toronto 10.0M Montreal 5.0M Vancouver 3.8M Calgary 2.7M Edmonton 2.3M Ottawa 2.0M

It varies for both condos and purpose built rentals. High rise condos (Park Point, The Royal, Waterfront, etc. have as high of higher level of material as high rise purpose built rental. The low rise builds of condos seem to have higher end materials than the purpose built rentals. I’m...

Who will be Alberta's largest metro in a decade?

Back in the 90s the mayor of Edmonton (can’t recall his name) was pushing for consolidation of the two Edmonton airports stating a strong airport was part of a strong economy. He was predicting that if YYC got to be too much bigger than YEG, Edmonton’s economy would start to become a spoke on...

2023 BUMP Barriers + Seasonal Patios

I’ve been thoroughly loving all the patios around the city and they way they bumped them out to allow more space for pedestrians 😎

    Statscan numbers

I googled this because it didn’t seem to add up and results show Moncton around 70-80k for household income, which makes more sense. I have relatives there and have spent time there, I’m 99.9% sure the average household income is much less than 100k.

    Calgary Restaurant Thread

Despite allowing the drive-thru, the new McDonald’s is still much better than the old one.

I know this building isn’t to everyone’s taste, but it will be 100 times better than an empty parking lot, plus we could use more attainable/affordable housing in the city. As far as the actual design goes, personally, I think it’ll be a nice contrast to the other buildings in the area.

A true park would be nice, but I agree it needs to be mixed with other sorts of facilities. Basketball courts etc… would be good. What would be great is a couple of restaurants like The River Cafe, but less fancy, with patios fronting the river pathway would be amazing. Maybe a couple of kiosks...

    Stampede 2023

I went to the stampede grounds for the first time since before Covid and enjoyed it. Not much has changed, but the key is to go every few years.

    Alberta Provincial Politics

My apologies for all the posts, but I’m gonna say what others have said. Regardless of the fiscal spending side of things, the UCP is downright scary. Voting Danielle Smith in wouldn’t be good for us here in Alberta, and it sends a message to the rest of Canada that Alberta still has a high...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I wouldn’t count on the UCP spending less money overall, yes, they might spend less money on healthcare or education, but as we’ve seen in the past, they are capable of spending money on things like pipelines or giving away money to oil companies to clean up their wells. It’s not like...

    Alberta Provincial Politics

Not necessarily. My sister has always been on the fence when it comes to politics, at times voting, for a party, based on one particular issue. She was planning to vote for the NDP, but might be voting for the UCP because of their promise of extra policing. She doesn’t believe the NDP would do...

    Calgary Municipal Politics

The forum is geared toward development, but I’m glad there’s a thread for municipal politics, otherwise it would pop up in the other threads. With this thread you know what to expect.

    Alberta Provincial Politics

I’m feeling positive about this election. Either way it’s a loss for the UCP. If they win it’s not total victory in the sense that a party uniting the right, in the province of Alberta was barely able to beat the NDP. It would be a statement on where they’re headed. If they lose it’s much worse...

    Calgary | Flyover Block | 20m | 6s | RNDSQR | FAAS Architecture

Given the location I’m happy to see something is even being built there. If it has a cool screen covering and other stuff, that’ll be a bonus. If it is hardy board or cheap siding, I will still be happy.

Once 4th Street lofts are up, there’s gonna be a canyon from that same view.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I don’t think it’s a case of bulldozing every land-use that’s out of step, a cemetery no matter how you look at is 99% a waste of land, especially inner-city land. We have lots of Innercity land, it’s true, but not all of it is great for developers, otherwise it would already be developed.
