So is that a giant granite panel - like a precast panel, but of cut stone?

    Homelessness and Panhandling in Toronto

I guess you better stay away from Vancouver or Montreal then... we're very fortunate in Toronto when it comes to numbers of beggars and homeless people when compared with other large Canadian cities.

Dubai: An Architectural Masterpiece layered on a Third World Country?

It's true... Emirates is the absolute best airline I've ever flown with - not even the likes of Air Canada Executive First or Lufthansa come close to comparison - and those are considered quality brands in the airline industry.

What a "Manhattan" view that is - such a powerful streetwall.

The owner of that block lives in Hong Kong I believe.

    Homelessness and Panhandling in Toronto

I've seen many female panhandlers of all ages in the city... I wouldn't say 99+% men...

I live on St. Patrick and use a Zipcar twice a month for groceries... very easy. On my way home from work sometimes I pop into the new Longos on Dundas for odds and ends. Kensington/Chinatown is also great for specialty items once in a while. It really isn't as bad as people make it sound -...

I am a fan of Lord Norman Foster's work - and he certainly did not disappoint at U of T.

I live in a 2-storey skyloft where west-facing is floor-to-ceiling wall-to-wall glass, and even with the motorized window shades down, from April-October the air conditioning runs constantly. Stunning to look at, but very energy inefficient!

Umm, I would rather take our "plain glass box" any day, thank you very much!

Mississauga, city centre and all, is probably the best example of a suburban agglomeration this country has.

The TTC isn't simply placing "another order" with Bombardier, but rather the single largest order of light rail vehicles in history as well as a sizeable subway car order - that plant will be humming for years thanks to the TTC. Having them manufactured so far away, and for many years...

Of course a rail car fabrication facility would have to be set up at a place like Downsview, but Alsom was willing to build a new facility in Quebec for new subway cars in Montreal - costly, but entirely feasable. Bombardier already has significant operations at Downsview.

This complex shipping process from Thunder Bay seems just a little ridiculous to me - they should have just fabricated them at Downsview or something instead.

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say "perfectly" northern European... but certainly a step in the right direction! :)
