    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

It looks like they envision converting MacDonald bridge to pedestrian use and building yet another bridge just to the north. I'm not sure realigning the east side of MacDonald Ave would make much sense...probably better to just get 2 birds stoned by rehabbing/replacing the existing bridge.

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

The bus barns are a when, not an if. That land is actually one of the [probably] greasy parts of the arena deal - CSEC was going to get first right of refusal to buy that land at 'market value'. How that market value is determined with only 1 bidder is a problematic question. On the other hand...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

Bus barns land at least have the river + riverwalk. Access isn't that bad, especially once the 17 Ave connection and 5 St SE underpasses are complete. The riverfront should become an extension of the riverwalk that can include a flood barrier. Greenline + walkable to Inglewood/EV = very...

Who owns the land between those powerlines at the tracks? CP or Remington? I know it used to be a railyard...did CP sell it? And who owns north of the tracks? Presumably the city? IIRC it's theoretically earmarked for a regional rail station?

    Calgary to Canmore Trail

This already exists...at least the CGY-Banff On-It bus service was doing pretty well IIRC before COVID de-railed everything. Banff/Canmore local/regional transit is already very good. That said, the longer the duration of a trip, the more a train>coach.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I'm just saying the scale of the project will be so massive that you might as well dream big and take the opportunity to fix everything you can...it's a pretty rare opportunity to have a totally clean slate with such a big/central parcel. It would be a shame to spend a billion+ dollars and still...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I think it's a little beyond the main areas of contamination concern, but the scale of the clean up may be so large I think it's worth considering some pretty dramatic changes to the hole area. It might not be too crazy to trench the CP tracks from about Crowchild to just east of 14 Street (more...

    Urban Development and Proposals Discussion

I forget if there is already a proposal in the vicinity, but a hotel might be an ideal use for the 14-15 ave lot.

They scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed but just couldn't get the piss stench out? Like when the valet ruined Jerry's car?

    General Construction Updates

The railings on that first proposal look even worse as they appear to be like 6ft tall for some reason. On the flood barriers - it's interesting to compare the stretch south of PIP where the barrier separates foot/wheeling paths vs. this stretch where they're together. I think both approaches...

    General Construction Updates

I mean...that's kinda the whole point... I'll reserve judgment until we see the final product. The shrubbery was fine, but unremarkable IMO, and shouldn't be hard to replicate or improve upon (like the gardening near the Peace Bridge).

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

I didn't necessarily mean for 14th/15th (though I see how my post reads that way). My idea is more for areas like Killarney, Mt Pleasant, etc. Or to the earlier post, instead of the half-baked mess on 11 st, use 12 St to make something that actually flows + continues further south for...

    General Construction Updates

That would look waaaay better considering the curvy flow of the riverbank and pathways there!

    Infill Development Discussion

No one has argued it needs to be made into housing. It just really undercuts arguments from the community association about parking/aesthetic concerns from other new developments.

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Maybe because this way leaves room for a wheeling lane? An idea I'd like to see tested: - 1-way traffic - Parking on both sides of the road - 1-way bike lane runs right down the middle of the road (ideally painted green) - Median islands every block (or every other block) that force vehicles...

Calgary Bike Lanes and Bike Paths

Left side would put you into the door zone (and people struggling to park zone). Right side is actually pretty well protected from passenger doors. The curves are somewhat mitigated by the fact that 2/3 of those intersections are 4-way stops (though this may make them feel more like 6-way...

    General Construction Updates

IIRC the bridge needs to support emergency vehicles, which probably complicates many creative ideas. It just needed to not suck...mission accomplished.

    Calgary | Stephen Avenue Quarter | 241m | 66s | Triovest | Gibbs Gage

If we were to hold a fantasy draft of all downtown blocks in Calgary for potential redevelopment (to bring general benefit to the city), where would this rank? If we exclude blocks that are obviously unrealistic (already containing tall towers or other new(ish) development), I think this block...

    Infill Development Discussion

Presuming you copied and pasted their email correctly, they didn't even write the addresses correctly. Maybe the developer should propose a wrecking yard that would better fit with the fabric of the community. Hell, there current use doesn't look far off https://goo.gl/maps/hhpv1aNP39GcMCZBA
