I don't mind the black brick...although I do think we have seen too much of it in this city, but the fake wood/laminate door surrounds really don't feel good or look good in person. Shame.

    1) The name/branding bait and switch is really bad form. Not cool for purchasers that paid a premium for the Thompson Hotel services promised 2) The 12 storey original application was much better. S+P would agree 3) The 15 Storey building we got is a direct result of a cock-fight b/w Peter Freed...

That's a panelized liebherr fridge. Surprised to see a fridge that nice being spec'd in this building.

Just got caught up on this thread. I think much of this dialogue gets resolved if the building being proposed was up to par w Sweeny's other work and/or at least rendered properly. Looks pretty lacklustre to me. Tough to "invest" in architecture when the margins are still very tight on the...

    Toronto Toronto | 2851 Yonge Street | 27.3m | 7s | Lanterra | Core Architects

Not that I am super keen on this design...but it sure will be an improvement over Lanterra's POS up the road.

    Toronto Toronto | Lawrence Parktown Residences | 35.22m | 9s | Lawrence Parktown Residences | Bortolotto

I am not sure I would use the term "neutered". Definitely dialled down the modern architecture, and less playful...but I like the updated design. It transitions well into the neighbourhood stepping down in height as it moves South. Kinda looks like a refined Dutch-style modern townhome now...

Thanks. Was curious if anyone knew who the actual developer was.

Who's the developer? Do they have staff support?

The cheap pre-fab cottage wanna-be stone look isn't really working for me. M5V is another good example. Or SE corner of Landsdowne and Dupont

I'd be pissed if I bought and paid a premium for the Thompson Brand and the promise that the Thompson Hotel Group would be running the amenities. Part of the pitch was you could get hotel-style room-service in your condo. Wonder if that is still a thing. On a separate note..it is a shame Freed...

beautiful building. Hope it actually turns out looking this good. Super expensive, large suites. No Tarion Warranty considering Reno status??

    Toronto Toronto | Bisha Hotel and Residences | 146.91m | 44s | Lifetime | Wallman Architects

It seems to me that a big opportunity was missed here to really highlight the heritage portion of the project. Either through authentic continuation of masonry elements...or through some super slick modern curtain-wall which would highlight the existing/restored masonry elements. Adding 12...

Is it just me or does CORE seem to neglect how their buildings actually hit the street?

    Toronto Toronto | Lawrence Parktown Residences | 35.22m | 9s | Lawrence Parktown Residences | Bortolotto

This is exactly the type of project the city should be supporting. How can we expect developers to create more ground-based housing options when they get more hassle for these applications than towers? I remain shocked that Jennifer Keesmast can run her mouth all over Twitter and every other...

Already approved at the OMB. Good to see.

Great to see developers investing in higher quality design and materials.

Got it...I guess to be more precise, I was looking for a preliminary planning report, or at least the developer's planning rationale...but couldn't find it online

This looks better than expected....though I wonder how/why the decision was made to build out of reinforced concrete structure? Noise/vibration perhaps? Can't see how the developer would have made any money here....besides marking up the appliances...ha.
