But steveveveve, if Trump is only "meant to be seen" from one angle, how can it be a "well-defined tower"? Attractive buildings look good from all angles and should be designed with that goal in mind.

Terrific shot. It made me come to this realization: Toronto is indeed beautiful. She just needs a little bit of make-up before she goes out.

Your Trump is far better proportioned and its simple, clean, clear glass curtain wall is infinitely more elegant.

    steveve's Toronto city model

They should replace that out of date model at city hall with your model steveveveveveve.

I'm sure the construction workers are doing their best to avoid another dreadful winter of working in the cold. Granted, they won't be so high up but still.

steveveveve, I love you and your enthusiasm and your model, but, please, NEVER make that comparison again. If Trump was half as beautiful as the Chrysler Building I would cry tears of joy for this city.

Scott Pilgrim film takes on Toronto!

Even if you don't get the humour, even if you don't like the acting, and even if the action is just too much for you, I'd ask you to think about its technical merit. The transitions in this film are so flawless that you don't even notice them upon first viewing. And that is a compliment...

i'm sure that has to do with two things. the foot of the ramp needs to line-ip with a yet-to-be built traffic light. also, the incline has to accessible to disabled people.

The New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles, owned by Quentin Tarantino, has given SPVTW a permanent monthly midnight screening. http://www.movieline.com/2011/08/scott-pilgrim-to-live-on-in-monthly-la-residency.php

I'm not sure to what extent the concrete walls will be replaced, but as you can see in the render below, there will be glass. Christopher Hume suggested doing something like this in an article a few years ago as a way of opening up the square to the surrounding area. He argues the original...

That glass around the roof of the new building should also be the same glass that will replace much of the concrete on the elevated walkway. Good choice.

650 Bay St Boutique Hotel Redevelopment (Lanterra, ?s, ?)

This project just seems so odd. I can only hypothesize that whoever owns this thing is "revitalizing" it slowly enough such that when someone inevitably burns it down the insurance will more then compensate him for the tiles or whatever the hell they are that have been glued-on to the facade.

This is a damn big bridge. I didn't fully realize its scale until I saw the above photo with the men working on the frame.

Good point. Having said that, I think we should strive for all Toronto architecture, especially large, cultural institutions, to be aesthetically excellent. This area is a former wasteland, themepark, concrete jungle experiment though.

Can't architects and/or developers just give us a building with clean, clear glass? It's nothing fancy, it's just timeless and elegant.

Of course a sidewalk is being installed. Considering the newfound density of this "neighbourhood," and the construction of this bridge, it would be outrageous to not have one. Does anyone remember that southern patch of Richmond just east of Spadina? There was no sidewalk there for the...

not bad, the pillars are really unimaginative, but overall, i like this bridge. it is needed, certainly.
