I count 17 repetitions of the basic 6-floor "hanger" unit, that's 102 average floor heights. In the render, some have 4 floors plus a setback (amenity or mechanical floors?) that looks equivalent in height to another 2 floors. Creative renders? Or a massive reduction in floor-to-floor height to...

That would work. As long as the load gets transferred to the two vertical columns somehow, it's all good. And it certainly does look more refined than the earlier cross-grid design.

Looks very nice. But I'm puzzled by the direction of the diagonal exogrid elements. Shouldn't they be in the opposite direction, to transfer the load from the upper outside corner of each six-floor grid to the two main vertical columns on each side? Unless of course they are purely decorative.

Would the City allow a floor plate 2/3 the size, with a height 50% greater (290m) to have the same total floor area? Or would shadowing on Jesse Ketchum Park become an issue?

I too only see the first four images, even though all ten are visible as links when I try quoting the post. This is a problem I've seen on more than one thread on UT.

I've had the same problem in recent weeks. Perhaps the browser? (I'm using Opera.)

Bottom line to me: the structural design and massing have greatly changed from the initial proposal. The height has increased and the Hue's facade will be retained. The diagrids may or may not be on what gets built, but I still expect a very good design. The negativity on this thread is to be...

I would love if groundbreaking ceremonies always involved actual groundbreaking. I can just see the be-suited dignitaries breaking a sweat by attempting to force a spade into the packed-solid soil of the excavation site, jumping up and down on the blade to force it further into the dirt, but...

I like it as well, so I guess that makes me an uncultured philistine too.

I admit that a similar thought crossed my mind when I looked at the images.

50s seems rather tall to be called infill. Maybe in NYC it would make sense to call a 50s building "infill".

I agree with both of the above posts. This looks like NIMBYism to me.

The right-winger's mindset is that the poor need the spur of their poverty to create an incentive to stop "freeloading" and become productive contributors -- hence the social safety net should be slashed to the bone. But at the same time, the rich need the benefits of their wealth as an...

You beat me to it. My sister is disabled and unable to work at all. She gets just over $1000 a month from ODSP to cover all her expenses. No idea where this idea of $1500/month is coming from.

The key sentence, in my opinion, from that story: The only thing missing, so far at least, is any kind of monetary commitment or timeline for a much-needed LRT line from Union Station along the burgeoning easterly stretch of Queens Quay.

They also pay little or no attention to traffic when they are crossing the street -- usually with a phone in their hands as well. Where are the render-ambulance attendants that would surely be kept busy scraping render-people off the streets?

Somebody else trying to log onto my UT account

Twice in the past month or so, I have received an automated message that somebody has tried to log onto my UT account. The most recent message is as follows: The IP address suggests a location in Chengdu, China. The previous message indicated the same location as well. Is this becoming a...
