There's a proposal for that spot: https://calgary.skyrisecities.com/database/projects/connaught-mixed-use but no idea if there's any action planned for it

I had a buddy living in first on tenth a couple years ago facing the train line. The views were primo but the trains were REAL loud and at all times of the day. South facing is the way to go

I understand in this market that they chose rentals, but I wish this was condos! I'd buy one. And I am NOT bullish on the condo market in Calgary. But I just love the area, love the development.

Fuck! this is so god damn ugly. Everything about it... the atrocious podium, that crown, now the dual towers that are the same height, the excessive spandrel

Toronto is one of the most sterile cities in the world. I'm a big fan of some of their developments but holy moley the development is so aggressive and very little thought is placed around streetfront interaction compared to other major cities.

Well, the Edmonton CN tower sold for $10 + debt: https://www.westerninvestor.com/news/alberta/edmonton-office-tower-sells-for-10-and-debt-1.24271121 and Edmonton has a lower vacancy rate. So probably not too much. In all seriousness, the debt was ~60M and it isn't a high end office building...

    Calgary | ARC 33 | 22m | 6s | RNDSQR | S2 Architecture

Swapping a couple run down single family homes with a 6 story building with retail at grade cannot possibly drive vibrancy down. It's a non-argument

    Edmonton | Southpark on Whyte | 50.9m | 16s | ONE Properties | GBL Architects

Someone tell RNDSQR to open an office in Edmonton... they're developing in Winnipeg but not in Eddy!

    Calgary | Crosstown | 88m | 30s | Anthem

The rental market is fine because of reason #2: people are doing poorly so they don't have enough money for a downpayment.

Obviously an exaggeration, but the reality is that young people are leaving Calgary pretty fast: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/calgary-losing-young-adults-census-data-analysis-1.5444969

    Calgary | Crosstown | 88m | 30s | Anthem

It's because no one thinks they'll be in Calgary for the long term. That + people are doing poorly so they don't have enough money for a downpayment.
