    The Coming Disruption of Transport

I never understood the huge jump from ICE cars to fully electric. Toyota was right to focus on hybrids. A plug-in hybrid will give you 40 miles of electric range when charged to 100%. Not as much as an EV which probably gets well over 200 miles on a full charge. But I truly believe as Toyota...

This is truly a bizarre story. What could have been the two men's motivation? It's not even like they were illegally renting them out. They were actually living in them?

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Stouffville trains should stop at Scarborough GO in the off chance anyone on the Stouffville line wants to transfer onto the LSE and head towards Oshawa. I know, we're probably talking about 0.00001% of riders,,, but still. Maybe stop at Danforth if that's easier for MX, but then those riders...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I am. I was in Vancouver last month where I saw and rode the Skytrain for the first time. I found them to be much more aesthetically pleasing that the street level LRTs we're constructing here in Toronto. I was in Calgary in January where the C-train track setup is absolutely atrocious looking...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I would probably be more partial to LRTs and streetcars if their energy source came from underneath at the track level instead of the pantograph, catenary setup that make our streets look cluttered and messy. I hate the spiderweb of cables located at the intersection of Spadina and Dundas. I...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

These apps didn't exist when I worked in DT Toronto back in 2009-2011. People simply left their desk and went to one of the many food courts in the underground. A lot of smaller, family run, restaurants don't actually like using these apps because the apps get to take their cut from every order...

Any plans to grade separate Egerton St., right by the CN rail yard?

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Right.... and where's all the goods that move by truck going to go?

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I'm concerned we're going to see trains bunching up on the Golden Mile, street level portion, similar to what we see with the downtown streetcars. Two thirds of the line has the tracks completely grade separated and with trains flying across the line, and then they reach the at-grade, east...

    VIA Rail

Right, my point being that while Canada doesn't have the best service compared to Europe/ Asia, Canadians still take pride in what we have, while maintaining a desire to see it improved. That's usually visible in how clean our trains are, drivers respecting rail road crossings, etc. The fact...

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

I was discussing the Galt subdivision which goes between Detroit and Montreal. An increase in 53" containers coming up from Mexico and through Chicago. Has nothing to do with ports on the west coast with goods coming from Asia.

    VIA Rail

My post wasn't regarding service. More regarding the cleanliness of the trains. Then how do you explain the tagging on the inside of the trains?

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Maybe there's no justification for such an endeavor today. I wonder what the predictions are for the amount of freight CP will be moving in the near and long term future? I guess my thinking is that with the recent purchase of KCS and now CP's mainline stretching down to Mexico, we may see an...

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

What do these markings mean? Are they preparing to rip the tracks up?

What's being done on LSW this weekend? Will riders notice and difference on Monday?

    VIA Rail

The amount of tagging/ vandalism you see on passenger trains in Europe is staggering. Something you hardly ever see in North America. Even on the inside of the trains. This video really shows how much of an issue the vandalism of trains is in Europe. At one point of the video they can't even...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Maybe setup jersey barriers between the tracks and the roads? Calgary does this with their LRTs that run down the middle of stroads. Not very visually appealing, but does the job. https://maps.app.goo.gl/kVD8Hvf6PAMh5XdW7

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

A 413 bypass wouldn't open up the midtown. We would need CP to construct a bypass that goes around the entire GTA for that. This would open up the Milton line and make the Orangeville line possible.
  19. B

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Yeah, CP would still use the midtown. A 413 bypass would be purely for the benefit of the Milton line. I think a CP train traveling around Brampton would be quicker than currently having their trains go all the way down to the Junction and then travel north along Islington towards CPKC's...
