I agree -- it doesn't respect the original form of the building at all. At the very least it could articulate better with the diagonal jut of the upper floors.

So the re-work is only the podium? It will be a bit odd to have such an airy podium below such a materially heavy building.

And, to clarify, "The material is a throwback anomaly among Toronto parks slides made of plastic or other materials that don’t get excessively hot in the summer sun."

I don't disagree, but I'm sure the city wants to avoid possible legal issues.

And who would get sued if the kid is burned by the slide?

I'm not sure what Matt thinks would be an appropriate solution -- we don't want kids burning themselves on hot slides.

No, it's why they need to spend a little to make the pedestrian realm more appealing. I'm a huge fan of having the refinery there, and watching the ships unload next to Sugar Beach. I don't see any reason that it has to be replaced with yet more nondescript condos.

I was hoping they'd also be keeping it around so we could watch the cool ships unload next to Sugar Beach. It's really the juxtaposition of the recreational and industrial that makes Sugar Beach work. Seriously, I don't understand the complaints here. I will say, however, that with all the...

What is the purpose of the huge concrete platform at the one end? I haven't seen that sort of thing before.

Is this the building at the north corner of Front and Cherry?

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Grass would need to be watered, fertilized, weeded, and cut. There is no argument that it looks better, but I'm not sure it's worth the added maintenance expense.

I saw this on a truck today: And yes, getting closer, that is indeed a Crosstown Flexity: I'm guessing it's easier to lift those cars without their trucks, unless these are the special "maglev" versions of the Flexity. And I didn't realize that the Crosstown was going to extend to Montreal.

While it's not used as a retail space, Queen Richmond Centre might also qualify.

Apple wouldn't be interested in a small store here -- it already has one at Eaton Centre. It's presumably looking for a flagship store (which Canada currently doesn't have), and the lack of columns at The One makes it an excellent location for that. And I'm sure The One is happy with that, as...

Presumably rumble strips aren't used because of snowplowing. Otherwise there are various places where such a feature would be useful to prevent vehicle intrusions into streetcar right-of-way.

    Toronto Toronto | Mirvish Village (Honest Ed's Redevelopment) | 85.04m | 26s | Westbank | Henriquez Partners

What's the history of the Honest Ed's building? Was it built in such a maze-like fashion intentionally, or was it a conglomeration of existing structures?

    Toronto Toronto | Yonge & Rich Condominiums | 156.35m | 46s | Great Gulf | a—A

Are the developers connected in any way to the buildings to the east of the site on Lombard? They are empty at present, and there seems to be work going on inside.

    Toronto Toronto | Bathurst Quay Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto | Kearns Mancini

It's sad that, even in the render, there is chain-link fence topped with barb wire around the silos.
  19. T

    Toronto Toronto | Yonge & Rich Condominiums | 156.35m | 46s | Great Gulf | a—A

Is the building at the corner of Victoria and Lombard (at the southwest corner of the block) going to be demolished? The renders imply that there will be a plaza there, but I would have thought if the developer owned that land they would have continued the towers there. Is this just a case of...

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

That's interesting -- I have avoided Uber because I'm not sure what randos they have driving (and they seem to have far less control over their drivers), and because the company itself seems like a toxic bro cesspool. But part of my suspicion is likely just my age.
