Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Full disclosure, it was a couple of years ago, so I do not have the exact quote. But I am pretty confident that was his answer, or at least something along those lines. Also in his defence, he became the CEO after the decision was made to take the route along the surface. So it is unlikely he...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I was at a town hall meeting in Scarborough with Byford a couple of years ago, and someone asked him this. You do not want to know what his answer was... Do you want to know what his answer was? Highlight below to see... It didn't even cross their mind. But he suspects the cost savings...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I only saw it from the front end as I caught it as it was coming up the street, likely why it didn't seem all that big. As for the transfer process, they should have instructions in the car like they have at GO stations. If there are instructions, I completely missed them.

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

The money to bury the Eglinton East section would have come from the money earmarked for the Finch and Sheppard light rail lines (which also begs the question, if those lines lose all support, what would happen to that money?). Yes the tunnel maintenance costs would increase, but considering the...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

In retrospect, it makes you wonder: In hindsight, would we have been better off going with Ford's memorandum with the province? Yes Eglinton East would have been tunneled rather than at grade (or even elevated), but the corridor would have remained as light rail, and more reliable to boot since...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

So I FINALLY got a chance to ride the new streetcar today! A few thoughts: Perhaps it is cause I didn't get a good view of it from the outside, perhaps I overhyped it in my mind, but it didn't seen that much longer than an articulated bus. I know the very front is blocked off for the driver...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I kind of like the new design. Looking forward to seeing what they do with the inside (more comfortable seats please).

    They're coming.

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

CTV News did a video comparison of taking the GO versus the TTC from Liberty Village and Main/Danforth. Looks like they chose a bad day for GO, as its savings were miniscule due to delays. That said, their methodology could have been sharper. Going from Liberty Village, it required the guy to...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I'm currently doing a research project on Detroit, and if anything they should look at adding a second track to their el. It does a fantastic job hitting destinations in and around the downtown core. Assuming Detroit cannot use Mark II trains, perhaps we could go in together to buy new trains...

    Google Maps: Toronto in 3D!

Especially since the 3D stops about a kilometer south of my apartment!

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

I think using the new streetcar livery would have been a no brainer, but I actually don't mind the current blue design. Even if not perfect, it has a creativity which is lacking in most TTC designs. Certainly better than the bare look of our subway trains.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

There are HOV lanes on the DVP, but they are for GO buses only.

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Is the bridge still closed? And if not, why wasn't regular routing resumed (assuming it has not been)?

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

From Don Mills and Lawrence to Pape station (assuming it follows the same route as the current 25 bus) is 26 minutes. So 6 minutes would be about a 23% reduction in travel time, from this leg of the journey. This is admittedly a conservative estimate, since I am also factoring in traffic, red...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

It is likely that Don Mills will get an express bus later this year. From Don Mills and Lawrence to Pape station by car via Overlea, Google is reporting a 14 minute drive (17 minutes with current midday traffic). It is a 10 minute train ride between Pape and St. George, also according to Google...

York Region Transit: Viva service thread

Well, it is under contract to YRT. YRT pays the TTC to operate its bus here, and writes the schedule for the route. Oddly. using Google Maps the route is showing a detour along 14th, Box Grove, and Highway 7. However both YRT and TTC network maps show it staying on Markham the entire way. The...

The Mystery Tunnel near Rexall Centre

On a Fark.com thread I heard people suggest it could be used as a grow op. Makes a lot of sense when you think about the area (between a university campus and a low income neighbourhood).

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

The problem with just using debit and credit cards is that it would be difficult to provide fare discounts for buying in bulk (like tickets/tokens and passes provide). The idea behind smart cards is that one is prepaying for their rides, putting up more money now to save in the long term...
