Looks like Zaza has rebranded itself to Coco Espresso Bar (and some sort of gelato place next door)

Boutique programming and inequality in the TDSB

On the whole "new Canadians" thing - what's really interesting is that, at least back when I was growing up, better-off "new Canadians" skip the "boutique" programs and automatically venture to private school. My parents didn't even CONSIDER French Immersion (I'm actually unsure they knew it...

    Whole Foods

I agree. I stopped there after Mother's Day brunch close by, just to pick up a few items for the next few days. It's HORRIBLE, IMHO. It felt small, empty (especially for a Sunday), and didn't really have much to offer. I wanted to grab some salad for dinner, but they didn't have packaged...

Should Ontario abolish religious schools or Eliminate funding for religious schools

It's pretty obvious that we will never agree on this topic, so let's just agree to disagree. I will, however, defend my alma mater and schools just like it. In my opinion, schools in large cities like Toronto, whether public or private, will always be segregated one form or another - even...

Should Ontario abolish religious schools or Eliminate funding for religious schools

    1. TCS is co-ed and has been since the late 80s/early 90s (used to be boys-only). 2. Royal St. George's is for boys Not touching the religion thing.

Should Ontario abolish religious schools or Eliminate funding for religious schools

You are obviously NOT an alum of schools such as BSS, Haveral, TCS, Royal St. George's etc... Most of us take pride in our education and love the traditions these schools hold. Without having experienced these schools, you probably don't understand what it's like. Anyway, I'll end it at that...

When did Frida close? Their website says they're only doing catering.

Should Ontario abolish religious schools or Eliminate funding for religious schools

Nothing wrong with religious schools if you pay for them. While I DID go to a Catholic school under the Catholic board for a few years, I finished high school at BSS. I quite enjoyed going to chapel daily - it was a great way to reflect and start the day (here is a glimpse of one of our...

    Random Ontario retail nostalgia

A friend of mine from elementary school used to have her birthdays there. She'd order a gigantic sundae and all of us would share it (yes, all 6-7 of us!!!). Who knows what we're now immune to thanks to the communal bowl.

Roots Kids has moved back in with the main Roots store, leaving two spaces open on either side of MAC. Anyone know if those places have been leased?

Hmmm...I guess people who do spin will now have two choices: Equinox AND Soulcycle. Wait....does Equinox Yorkville offer spin?

    Buffet restaurants or lack thereof

Some family clubs run buffets daily - mostly to satisfy kids who are picky eaters. There are some kid-friendly items, but parents can pick out more "grown-up" foods for the kids to try without having to order an adult plate for them (only to have them NOT finish).

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

In reality, we're a buffet. We pick and choose what traditions from the old country we carry on and what cultures we adopt. At least that is the case for those of us born/raised here. We pick up whatever we see in school. A "tossed salad" would be more like someone like me only celebrating...

I think everyone just goes to Freshii or Southstreet - places they're familiar with. Or Whole Foods.

Did that pizza place (next to Freshii) in the food hall shut down? If so, it certainly didn't last too long!

    Colourful characters from the past

I remember the Shaky Lady on Bay and Bloor from years ago and then they found out she actually had a place to stay and owned a nice TV. I'm not at Yonge/Dundas all that much in the evening - is that crazy proselytizing guy who hates Catholics still there?

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

I recently received an email that Trattoria Bacio on Cumberland is shuttering. They will continue to offer a catering service.
