    Nordstrom

As many of you know, Nordstrom Eaton Centre's pre-opening gala was Wednesday. I was there - thought it was a bit chaotic as the associates were still a little bit on the "green" side of things. However, I still had a great time. Selection is pretty good, though most of the brands are...

Is "return migration" or emigration common among Toronto's immigrant communities?

Some of the people I went to high school with moved back to Hong Kong where there were more jobs for them (a lot of it due to connections from parents, I believe). They all seem to have a slightly easier life there than they would here, as well. Help is MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE and EVERYONE seems...

    Coffee Time

Coffee Time = Where cops go to do drug busts. They own Eggsmart (the one on Bay near Dundas is always busy on weekends. Basically tourists who just want to grab a sit down breakfast. They just need to go a few blocks south and they'll get to Eggspectation, Better food there. I call...

    Revitalization of historic ethnic enclaves

    Well, culturally different, anyway.

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

I always thought the Quebec school system was more similar to England's, with CEGEP being like A-levels.

    Revitalization of historic ethnic enclaves

I'm not sure if the younger generation is necessarily "moving back" when it comes to Chinatown (at least the Chinatown in the Dundas/Spadina and Bay/Dundas areas). Most Chinese Canadians in their 20s and 30s grew up in the suburbs and really only went down to those areas once in a while -...

    Sears Canada (1952-2017)

I LOL'd at the new logo. Either done by a (high school) co-op student or they used something like fiverr.com. Bwahahahahahaha

Toronto non-mall retail (Odds & Ends)

The Brooks Brothers Flat Iron Shop in the Annex has closed. Most of the inventory will be moved to other locations.

^^^ I was at the current store yesterday and was told that the move will be at the end of September.

In what neighborhoods do a majority of kids attend private schools?

I often wonder how much Chinese culture Chinese Canadians REALLY identify with. Less than many multi-gen Canadians think - at least in my family. I mean, we do some of the major holidays/traditions (e.g. Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn Festival and a small handful of customs relating to births...

In what neighborhoods do a majority of kids attend private schools?

That's true. And then when you or your family come from one of said colonies (e.g. mine via Hong Kong), certain "liberal-minded" people ponder why you're "so integrated." :Eyeroll: #personalexperience #NOTanecdotal #reallyannoying

In what neighborhoods do a majority of kids attend private schools?

I wonder how many of the non-white kids are second generation - with parents who grew up in Canada (opposed to kids whose parents are "fresh off the plane"). I often find first gen Canadian born minorities (which I am one) are often ignored by media/seen as non-existent. I mean, people can't...

Looks like the new Moroco Chocolat will be retail only. No more brunch or afternoon tea.

In what neighborhoods do a majority of kids attend private schools?

I'm honestly not surprised. I live downtown(ish) and though I don't have kids yet, I will likely either consider private (including my alma mater if I have girls), French immersion (this also proves that "minority" parents will consider such programs - heh) or out-of-area attendance. I'm not...

Moroco Chocolat is moving their retail boutique to the Annex (Dupont/Madison). Not sure if they're going to be running a restaurant there - somehow I don't think they are, since they have been operating with a very small, lounge-y menu (with brunch on weekends) since June or so.

Does anyone know whether the Smartset at Metro Centre is becoming a Hyba (like the majority of Smartsets - some were converted into Addition-Elle)?

In what neighborhoods do a majority of kids attend private schools?

There were several private school kids in the area I spent my teen years as well (Yonge/York Mills), including yours truly. Not majority, however. I'd say that a fair amount near the Bridle Path do too. Forest Hill is home to both BSS and UCC, so a good number of kids there not only go to...
