    10 Dundas East

Gawd, everything in that area has "limited hours." The Judith and Charles at FCP closes at 3 PM on Saturdays and doesn't even do Sundays.

    Toronto Fashion Week CANCELLED!

I do not believe they are affiliated. I won't be surprised if that event eventually starts showing some women's designers...first as a "special" and eventually adopting them (and designers who do both men's and women's).

    Toronto Fashion Week CANCELLED!

...though it might come back in some form eventually, according to this article. Maybe. If they get funding.

    Bloor-Yorkville Scene

Raindrops, the rain gear shop at the Holt Renfrew Centre has closed.

    Bloor-Yorkville Scene

Kitchen Stuff Plus has taken over the old Grand & Toy location on Yonge, north of Bloor. An associate said they would be there for about a year, so it's a longer-term pop-up.

    Big Carrot announced 2nd Location

Was hoping they'd go to the Annex or Queen West or something like that. Or maybe even Summerhill/Rosedale.

British influences on Toronto, the city and its culture, that still survive to the present day

Went to a girls-only private school and we had a house system, prefects and called the principal a "headmistress" (until the mid-90s, anyway, when the title became "Head of School"). However, that's fairly typical of CIS (Conference of Independent Schools) institutions across Ontario.

    Big Carrot announced 2nd Location

Hope they open in the Summerhill, Annex, Rosedale or Yorkville. A bit closer to me.

    Shoppers Drug Mart

So what's the deal with the Shoppers on Yonge, south of Bloor? It's been under renovations for over a year (or at least it seems that way) and is still operating that super-tiny mini store.

    What is gentrification?

Not sure about that. Many newer (East) Asian immigrants somehow believe that mental illness - especially depression - is a "middle class invention." I have (boomer-aged) relatives who've said that they were "never depressed" growing up because there was "nothing to be depressed about."...

    What is gentrification?

My parents moved to Canada around the same time and also lived in the west end. They eventually settled in the Willowdale area around the time I was born and stayed there until I was in Grade 7 or so when we moved a bit further south to York Mills. Now they're downtowners like me. I don't...

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

Another pizza place coming to Yorkville. PI CO. is opening soon.

    TDSB & TCDSB Trustees/Politics

I'd run for school trustee, but will unlikely be elected because they're going to find out that the last time I attended a public school was in 1991. I spent my middle and high school years at an independent school. :S #noprivateschoolbrats

"Classy" Chinese food - does it exist?

The population is growing as more and more of us have kids. We can't rely on our parents to translate menus. Those of us who are Gen X have parents who are in their late 60s and 70s. Millennials' parents are in their 50s and 60s. They aren't going to be around forever. And I include those...

"Classy" Chinese food - does it exist?

Okay, so a jook sing probably won't eat pig intestines either, but we do like steamed fish. They aren't catering to jook sing at all. As for Lee Chen, I see many Asians eating there too. My parents like the place. Maybe not as much as restaurants up in Markham, but they would never dismiss...

What do other diverse cities worldwide think of Toronto's claim to be "the most multicultural city"?

I think eastern Canada has a larger proportion of multigenerational black Canadians than, say, Toronto. Growing up, the few black kids I went to school with were first generation Canadian with parents from the Caribbean. My first year roommate (from Halifax), however, can trace her roots back...

What do other diverse cities worldwide think of Toronto's claim to be "the most multicultural city"?

Especially if you're lower income. :( Middle and upper income Asians are probably okay - especially if they're successful in school and have parents with the "right" connections.

"Classy" Chinese food - does it exist?

They do a much better job catering to a wider/more diverse clientele. Too many Markham restaurants seem to only want HK immigrant customers and are NOT jooksing or non-Chinese friendly. These are places which still have two menus - one bilingual and another only in Chinese. Racist probably...

What do other diverse cities worldwide think of Toronto's claim to be "the most multicultural city"?

At the same time, the US seems to do a good job leaving Asians out of race-related stats - unless it is something Asian-focused. I think we do a better job here.

    What is gentrification?

What often bugs me about the definition of "gentrification" by some of the (super) left is they believe it drives minorities out and that gentrification is exclusively a "white" thing. I don't believe it's always the case. I mean, wouldn't it still be gentrification if, say, an urban-sized T&T...
