this is the park they are worried about shadows??? Shouldn't we cut down all the trees then if we don't want any shadows

    Toronto Toronto | The One | 328.4m | 91s | Mizrahi Developments | Foster + Partners

I might have been said earlier, but what was the cities reason for rejecting the height increase?

    Toronto Toronto | 8 Elm | 218.2m | 69s | Reserve Properties | Arcadis

there will still be 1 lane of traffic in either directions. There are no plans to eliminate car traffic from this area of Yonge.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

This is what building intuitional knowledge is all about. I don't expect a long delay on the west LRT because of the issue Metrolink have learnt with the crosstown. This is why it's important to always have some sort of Transit project under construction in the GTA.

One upside to the opening being push back is that gap between it and the west expansion continues to narrow. So hopefully when the line opens, it will only be a year for the expansion to open as well. The TBM is already at the halfway mark.

Hopefully this will herald more density on Spadina

what part of the transit project are they willing to sacrifice to get better looking stations then because the money has to come out from some part of the project.

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

Metrolink was created in 2006 but only in 2009 did it turn into its current form and it's been building and planning projects continually since then. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metrolinx the projects you are seeing in construction currently, were in various stages of planning upto 10 years...

I am aware when they started, that's why I said 20 years earlier. The Greater Toronto Services Board only existed for 3 years and was never in the building transit game. With Metrolinx we have an organization that must always be planning and building transit otherwise it ceases to exist...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

there has been, the Ontario line is being built on the lessons learnt from the Crosstown line. namely they have learned to start constructions on the more complex items that will take the longest time first. The crosstown line is being held up by the complexity of Eglinton stations which in...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

Toronto doesn't know what wants though as we can see with the 180-degree change from Mayor Millers Transit City to Rob Fords, Subways Subways, Subways. Metrolink will tell Toronto what it is getting and build it regardless of criticisms. I like that we have an agency who is 100% focus on...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

Metrolink exist to get transit projects built and i am glad that they don't get bogged down in local politics and push through regardless of public opinion. Leaving transit decisions up to local politicians, who are controlled by their local NIMBY's, has proven to be much worst in my opinion. I...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

the stations get watered down so that they can build all of them, if they didn't water down the stations, some of them would have to be cut. What underground Eglinton station would you remove so the other stations look nicer? Again, this is my point making stations nicer = fewer stations and...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

I don't know the details of the Yonge extension stations designs, but would you rather have Cummer station built if they were able to cut the cost of the other stations by 15% to make it possible or keep the current plans and not have a Cummer Stations at all? This is the crux of my argument...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

if we make the Yonge stations cheaper maybe we wouldn't need more money to add the Cummer station. this is my point. also, i added more context to my original post, see below.

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

I don't think its false at all, we have two recent examples in the city illustrating my point. 1. Stations have been cut from the Yonge extension for the purpose of saving money. 2. Platform screen doors were cut from the York University extension to make the stations cheaper to save money. in...

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

It comes down to do we spend hundreds of millions into making stations look pretty or spend those exact same funds into extending a line and having more total number of stations. Which is more beneficial to the city and transit user? The tradeoffs aren't pretty station vs barebones stations but...
  19. O

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

the financial benefits for platform screens doors is to limit the amount of trash and debris that gets on the tracks and damage both the tracks and wheels. you save more in maintenance than the cost of install platform screen doors

    Toronto Toronto | Ontario Line: Osgoode Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

I am taking about current practice, all but 1 of these are older than 30 years. No one is building stations like these anymore because if they did, they would have much smaller systems because all the cost would go into making stations looking pretty. Stations built in Spain, China and India in...
