10th Anniversary of the Toronto Megacity

To be honest I didn't even know it was canceled until just now. Had it been so great I'm sure I would have heard somebody gripping about it before now. When is(was) it held? in July? We have many other street festivals to celebrate Toronto.

10th Anniversary of the Toronto Megacity

That street festival was lame, Yonge Street really isn't a shut down for the weekend festival street. It's a fine parade route and shopping fair, but to close it off for street acts in small sections is just a waste of time. Nuit Blanche is probably the best festival this city has introduced...

Awesome news, thanks! It took Trump how long to fence off his land since start of sales, and it took these guys how many weeks?

From wiki- it took 2 years to do the aon Center. When completed, it was the world's tallest marble-clad building, being sheathed entirely with 43,000 slabs of Italian Carrara marble. This quickly proved to be an unsuitable cladding for the harsh Chicago winters. In 1974, just a year after...

Ed...........I'm not sure of anything ;) I only wish they'd lose the cheap ass tv antennas on the top for something a little classier like CIBC. And replace the tinted glass with something clear or reflective. Wyliepoon, some cool concepts though the last one would be the cities largest Pigeon...

Ed I was thinking the same thing but we'd both be wrong. First of all, the swing stage is only rated for 550 kilos - so that means two workers are limited to taking up or down four panels per trip. Secondly, we can't work between October and April because the winter winds are far too strong...

You can still see through etched glass if it's done with a fine pattern.

Hey, I love everything about this building, I just thinking ice forming over the sidewalks is cause for concern.

I like the idea of etched glass as well. But instead of preserving the horizontal lines, why not go with a random pattern? No other building in the core has that.

Richmond Town Manors (King West Village, Rosant, 4s, Core)

Is that the name of the place on Dundas south of Kensington Market? I like these but same as above, the entrances rub me the wrong way and do remind me of the public housing buildings. The tops are great however.

The likelihood of us seeing a design like the sphere on top Sapphire again in the near future is next to slim. What I find most perplexing about this proposal is the low price tag on the development. C$253 million seems low for a 55 storey office tower or did I read something wrong?

Toronto streetcar among 'journeys of a lifetime'

Oops, just realized this was the streetcar thread I opened so to stay on topic I'd just like to ad I love the Queen Street car. Queen Street and Bay 1923 Toronto Heritage Site, it's interesting what was there before Nathan Phillips Square.

Toronto streetcar among 'journeys of a lifetime'

I agree with what you're saying. I'd never go down there to shop, it really is only a 9-5 mall for the most part. TD however has a decent selection of big name places. I'm kind of surprised Rogers hasn't opened a few video stores down there for the bay street crowd.

1 St Thomas (Lee Development, 29s, Stern)

So interchange, what are your thoughts on X which is also a building pretending to be built decades ago? I see no problem with mimicking an era if it can be done well. Why should the deco style of architecture be locked up and never revisited again? If musicians and film directors can look to...

RBC Centre (LEED Gold, CadFair, 41s, KPF/B+H/&Co.) COMPLETE

It's only on the Eastern side of the site, on the western portion it's all glass. And I think this glass appears different depending on the the angle you see it at and the time of day. Those are metal panels not white glass and I think they may just be doing it along that section to tie it in...
