Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

The cab is a '57 Chevy as well - it has the low-line "150" series trim, while the one in the intersection is a Bel Air. The car facing the camera is a '59 Plymouth. There's a '57 Lincoln (with stacked headlights) tucked in behind the Plymouth, and the car moving out of the frame on the left is...

Good spotting on the Rambler, Mike. The car at the left is a '65 Ford Galaxie. I was thinking this was a Ford display and that the blue/white car was a Fairlane, but I believe you're right and that it's a Rambler Classic.

"...That's a Karmann Ghia poking into the picture isn't it? stumack? LIMike?..." Correct you are Mustapha! Behind the K-G is the back of a Type 3 "Squareback" wagon. The K-G is wearing either a 1964 or 1966 plate - the '64 plates were black on white and the '66 blue on white, but the colour...

From the signs on the white storefronts (one that looks like an aardvark or something and the purple/orange one reading "IG....", I agree with JT Cunningham - very late '60s at the earliest. Another clue is the "One Way Do Not Enter" sign - they began changing to the symbol type (as in the...

The car ('67 Meteor wagon) has an early "AAC" plate from the 1973+ series. Looks like there's a sticker in the bottom right corner which would date the photo to 1974 at the earliest.

LI Mike and Goldie: the two-tone car is a '57 Buick, and the two other cars visible are BOTH '59 Chevies. That's a Cities Service gas station at the extreme far left. The "rosettes" on the Buick were known as "Ventiports" - they've re-appeared on new Buicks of late.

    More Lost Toronto in colour

I don't think it's decked out for a royal visit, but rather the Coronation in 1953. The licence plate on the black car matches the 1953 format.

I believe the Japanese car is a 1973 Dodge Colt - it was a rebadged Mitsubishi product first imported for 1971. The beige car on the far side is a 1973 Buick Regal.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

The car on the street in the "then" pic is a '64 Mercury Comet, but I think the one parked on the sidewalk behind it is a '69-'71 Chrysler (Newport or New Yorker), which would date it a little later.

It's even clearer in a full photo that it was very much a scaled-down '56 Ford.

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

The Cadillac in the 1960 photo is a '58, the two-tone car is a Ford Taunus 17M - German made. Very unusual - they were sold in very limited quantities in the US for a few years ('58-'60 or so), but I didn't know they were available in Canada.
