    Misc. Infrastructure Projects

Can we see the articles the Edmonton journal, global, and CTV publish on the great appreciation for and support of 1) bike lanes 2) neighborhood renewal 3) any urbanist type decision in the city? Also, can news agencies fact check these “opinion” pieces of misinformed boomers? Good reporting...

Vancouver and Toronto can also command such steep prices in the core due to traffic and possibility of car free living in the core. That frees up 500-1000/month for many. That’s how a lot of young people making under 100k afford to still be in those cities. Here, a 20min commute can save you...

ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

This is fascinating to me. Maybe this is common? I’m not sure how other cities rank. I would have thought the middle 2 groups to be highest. 70% of users to be less than 20 times is interesting. School users should be 20+. Full time commuters using it should be 20+. Especially with ARC, moving...

sadly, this is where the market is moving. Prices have jumped a lot the last 6 months. Stuff that was 1900-2200 is now 2200-2600. still cheaper than Vancouver 🙃 (These pics are similar newer, but not luxury buildings)

    Capital Line LRT

You guys are probably right. I’m just getting cynical after years of our LRT struggling. Heritage Valley P&R has sort of flopped until now, but the psychological reality of a train there will likely change that vs just express buses. The cost is still egregious imo. But I’ll jump back on the...

    Capital Line LRT

Sunk cost fallacy Better to lose 100mil than 1bil. And if the line is one day restarted, some of those costs will be recouped. It’ll hurt future lines if this one is a failure. Think of all the damage the metro extension brought to public perception of our LRT and city management.

    Capital Line LRT

With the hospital on pause, and a airport connection not even on the radar, I’d prefer we pause this and go hard on a blatchford NW extension first. This will barely increase ridership for over 1bil. NW line would add tens of thousands daily from day 1, not even mentioning future TODs

    LRT Safety

We definitely aren’t in a bad spot like some cities. But I still think comparing us to cities that had 5-10x the downtown office workforce is apples to oranges. Students still need transit, hospital workers too, low income people too. That’s our ridership base. But elsewhere those groups make up...

We need 2-3 buildings every year to happen to be even close to the project growth of this area. Hopefully some other builders jump in soon. The uni lands projects could give some competition though for builders/capitals.

Probably still a chicken & egg problem. Toss 5 CRUs in here and I bet 2-3 stay empty for a while. Need more people still and more connection to surroundings.
