Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

A city run, or contracted bike share would be great. We could take some inspiration from Oslo too; they swap on winter tires to their bikes and keep them available all winter too.

    New Zoning Bylaw

They should give us extra for our extra ambitious zoning reform, set an example. "Y'all need to be more like Edmonton!"

    Edmonton | Stationlands Residential Towers | 90m | 25s | Qualico | DIALOG

I like it in theory, the way they've run it right up along the side of the CN tower podium with nothing else going on I think actually highlights the podium. I don't know much about the inside of the CN tower, but the podium is all parking, right? Would it be viable to connect the CN tower to...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Although the public spaces bylaw as a whole was send back to Administration for refinement etc. Prior to that we got an amendment passed to allow bicycles and mobility devices on the sidewalk in places where dedicated infrastructure is lacking! Thanks Ashley! I actually spoke in front of...

ETS Bus and General Transit Improvements

Just anecdotal, but the last time I used the 747, though the bus itself was fine, there was an unexplained LRT delay on the way down there, we were stuck at South Campus station for around 15m. We left with a pretty decent margin of error, but almost missed the 747 bus because of that. It...

Bold of Mill Woods to try and claim "Main Street" for themselves!

    New Zoning Bylaw

I'd really love to see some of the designs that are going to go up, if anyone has seen plans or permits.

    10507 to 10539–124 Street NW - Casia Developments - 2 x up to 27 - Proposed

I would also argue that development in Westmount, as in Oliver doesn't harm downtown, but rather augments it. The more people in this central part of the north side, between approx Westmount and Stadium, then the more people that are within easy access of downtown, and thus will make use of...

    Downtown Real Estate

I like the very simple streetscape of 96 St in the Quarters. It feels safe to walk, bike, drive in that stretch. It's a shame it's devoid of development, but I'd like to see more of that sort of street design. It doesn't have to be brick, you could do it with asphalt or concrete too. It's the...

    Miscellaneous

I had this feeling like it was never going to actually happen, so I'm somehow surprised to see them starting!

    Downtown Real Estate

I can speak for myself - we chose to move to Edmonton specifically to avoid having to live in the far flung suburbs. Things in Vancouver were looking more and more like if we wanted to buy and settle down, we'd have to end up in Surrey, Langley, or worse Abbotsford or Chilliwack, stuck with both...

    10507 to 10539–124 Street NW - Casia Developments - 2 x up to 27 - Proposed

It's easy to be pessimistic about this - given the number of promised developments that now sit as vacant lots, where once there was a functional older building. It feels especially that way when Alldritt is sitting on their empty lot directly across the street. Let's hope for the best lol.

    LRT Expansion Planning

On the basis that they'll someday open the ghost station? It seems unlikely, and given the choice I'd rather have a 95st station.

    LRT Expansion Planning

I'll throw in a third option for "95 Street/Little Italy Station".

    Edmonton's Population

The next national census is definitely going to be very interesting.

    Capital Line LRT

True enough, but people will also say "118th" to refer to the area, which is why i think that's the most appropriate name for the station, given that as a descriptor "118 Avenue Station" is more accurate than "Coliseum Station" with the coliseum soon to be gone. To be clear, not every station...

    Capital Line LRT

Ultimately Stations exist to get people to where they need to go, and the names should reflect what is important to people who might travel to that area. They're not honorary historical buildings or museums. The name of any station should reflect something about that area that explains to the...

    Edmonton | Stadium Yards | ?m | 6s | Rohit Communities

Phase 3 better have at least a few commercial units! I'll be sorely disappointed if they don't create some units that are directly visible from the station, it would be an enormous missed opportunity.

    Edmonton and the Hydrogen Economy

If they get the heavy equipment fuelling infrastructure up like they say is coming, I hope they would also allow regular vehicles to fuel up too. It would enable anyone to use hydrogen fleet or private vehicles, and if there is a big uptake then we can worry later about how to create dedicated...
