    Downtown Yonge

Better to have a (sort of) microbrewery than a major corp. But even better to have no advertising at all in a so-called public square.

    Blue Jays

While I haven't given up on them I'd say a 9 game losing streak is evidence of more than a bump in the road. They need to turn it around fast.

    BBQs on balconies

I'm assuming the gas lines are only for condo townhouses, or are there large low/high rise balconies that also have gas lines? I too have never seen such a thing.

Great Films! Comment or Suggest Some....

    Yeah, that too.

Great selection of classic movies fiendishlibrarian, along with Popeye Doyle, The Godfather and others I think The Taking of Pelham One Two Three was way ahead of its time. Prometheus, Lenny Bruce is rolling in his grave. :(

Agreed. If you can't show it the way the director intended then don't show it at all. The Internet has made access to foul language a moot point anyway.

    BBQs on balconies

    Absolutely not!

    BBQs on balconies

I support the unconditional right of all BBQ's to live free on balconies all across our fair city.

    LCBO / The Beer Store

On the one hand it's head-scratching to think one can make a nice living at the LCBO (full timers) when it requires so little to get into it. Clearly that's changing. But if it's about squeezing out full time employees for part time ones that's bound to cause a revolt so unless things get...

    Miller Derangement Syndrome

Yes, I think the G&M does try to tread a middle course but its old-school layout and reserved attitude makes it look stodgy to a lot of people. In some ways The Star is a top-notch local paper more than a significant North American daily. It hosts the largest Canadian market and plays to it...

TCM and AMC are the best things for regular TV in ages. One of them did John Carpenter's The Thing recently in all its uncut glory. And Dr Strangelove a few months ago.

Put me down as another who really dislikes dubbing. For foreign language films I'm a fan of anything by Kurosawa but Rashomon is probably the best. Aguirre, Wrath of God is epic in a number of ways. For Hollywood Gilliam's Brazil is great too though some will surely disagree with its pacing and...

    Miller Derangement Syndrome

Perhaps because the NDP in the West (everyone except Alberta) has a longer tradition of either being in power or being the official opposition and thus has to be a little more careful with economic plans and promises. Here they can promise the moon with little consequence while pressuring the...

Best place to view Toronto's skyline?

Thanks. The other places mentioned here sound good too.

    Toronto Toronto | Royal Ontario Museum | ?m | ?s | Daniel Libeskind

The Trypillians was a fascinating exhibit--it's not often these days one gets to learn so much about a group that was (for me) unknown though likely well known amongst people from the Ukraine. The pieces were well laid out as well. In spite of the exorbitant entrance fee and mixed feelings about...

    Miller Derangement Syndrome

I rarely agree with the editorials but the Star is the most complete paper that covers the GTA and has a very well presented layout. It's funny how often the Star pushes the social justice issues that are dear to the hearts of the NDP but hates to make the connection. Perhaps it's because it...

This Panorama sounds intriguing...culinary shortcomings aside, how was it in general?

US journo claims Bhutto was killed on Cheney’s orders

I don't think Truthers lack brain cells because they ask difficult questions; they lack brain cells because they continue to spout the same tired arguments (e.g., melting point of steel, airlplane profile lacking in the Pentagon debris, downward implosion) that have been fully debunked already...

    Blue Jays

From 1st to 3rd in two days, and the weak pitching staff has finally shown its true colours. Too bad Marcum and McGowan aren't yet ready and Litsch is still out as they are really the veterans in the pitching lineup behind Halliday, scary as that sounds.
