Montreal Woman Cuffed for not Holding Escalator Handrail

While I'm angered by this kind of behaviour I'm not totally surprised. Too often we're making rules to save people from themselves rather than letting people be responsible for their own actions. The way the police acted was so over the top it's hard to believe, but I guess they wanted to make...

    Toronto Street Food

Meh, the point is, if they are going to suck the life out of street food they might as well not bother at all--it just embarrasses the city when compared with other ones around the world. Train the vendors well, do random inspections and let the public decide. New York apparently hasn't lost too...

US journo claims Bhutto was killed on Cheney’s orders

While I'm tempted to dismiss this out of hand it's Seymour Hersh who is apparently making the claim, and Hersh does have an impressive history as an investigative journalist. But Hersh does work with a lot of anonymous sources and until a lot more substantive info comes out of this I'm not going...

    Tamil Protests downtown

Good to see the Tigers are finished as a military force but will likely make news from time to time with guerrilla style attacks or suicide bombings. Their overseas networks are still intact and others will likely go there to fill the void. Over here it sounds like the mood has changed--more...

Mississauga: Parking to be charged in MCC

I think the big problem with MCC is the lack of retail outside of Square One, and with Square One people drive in and stay there and don't wander around the rest of MCC. I wonder if the wide lanes on Burnhamthorpe also discourage pedestrians with cars doing 60-70 when they aren't backed up. I...

Mississauga: Parking to be charged in MCC

Great--I haven't lived there since December so maybe things have changed this spring. But no cheating by using farmer market days. :)

Mississauga: Parking to be charged in MCC

I have to agree with DHLawrence85--having lived at MCC for over 2 years it was a ghost town much of the time. Doady's picture at Dundas and Hurontario is a bit misleading (notwithstanding he is accurate in pointing out Mississauga itself has lots of walkers) as that area is a bit south and is...

Moscow bans gay rights parade on Eurovision day

What exactly are they afraid of? (yes, I know this rhetorical question could have applied to Toronto not so ago)

    Tamil Protests

Although the wording doesn't exactly reflect it I imagine the intention of the third option was "I'm not supporting the protests because the protesters are supporting a banned terrorist organization" as opposed to not supporting the protests because they are disrupting people's daily lives.

    Conservative Attack Ads

Yeah, I saw them on TV last night--pretty harsh and repetitive. They even mentioned having some anti-Ignatieff website setup up though I can't remember the name of it and that's probably a good thing. He'll definitely find it harder to make this crap stick with Ignatieff than it did with Dion.

    Tamil Protests downtown

That explains things a bit better. There's always a danger in arming and training proxy fighters to do one's dirty work--eventually they might become strong enough to do what they want and bite the hand that fed them.

    Tamil Protests downtown

Ah, I see. I knew of the big events happening there at that time but little about what followed. A sad series of events. I also wonder what the Tigers were thinking when they murdered Rajiv Gandhi. India has an entire state in the south that has a Tamil majority and I'm sure there was a lot...

Libeskind wins competition to redesign district of Seoul

Hmph. I liked the gritty Yongsan Business District, especially the huge maze that is the electronics market there. Libeskind's design is a nice modern addition to an already modern skyline (yet another glass and steel addition) and is probably for the better overall, but something is always lost...

    Tamil Protests downtown

Are you referring to the events around the storming of the Golden Temple?

    Tamil Protests downtown

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/story/2009/05/13/tamil-wednesday.html Many of those protesting are young, passionate and relentless in their support for the cause. A few spoke to CBC News. "When I see pictures of children being bombed by illegal weapons, when I see pictures of elderly women...

    Darkstar's Detroit (Part II)

Nice photos. Detroit looks a bit different than it did when I lived in Windsor a few years back but for the most part is the same ghost (down)town with the pretty skyline it ever was. Greektown was the best thing about it.

    Tamil Protests downtown

The guitars are the icing on the cake. As far as the LTTE leader goes, I guess even ruthless murderers can sometimes look completely harmless.

    Tamil Protests downtown

I'm concerned that scuffles will start breaking out between between the Tamils and the angrier elements of those who are being inconvenienced downtown. If these protests do continue after the war ends in Sri Lanka this will not end well.

How do you obtain your music?

First The Pirate Bay takes a hit (for now) in Sweden and now France passes a 3 strikes law. The pressure is definitely on and I can't imagine Canada escaping the clutches of the RIAA and its ilk forever. http://www.techspot.com/news/34695-france-passes-three-strike-antipiracy-bill.html

    Condo hardwood

That is ridiculous. What's the point of having hardwood if 60% is supposed to be covered-might as well stick to carpeting and save money. Of course no one is going to follow it but I suppose its a nice way for the builder to cover his ass if people complain that the soundproofing is too thin on...
