    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The new HOV lanes on Highway 400 have these interesting transfer lanes installed,

My point was that side platform terminal stations have shorter crossovers that require less time for the trains to go through them, and a train using the crossover is less likely to block an arriving or departing train. Also, placing the crossovers beyond the station is required so that one...

Yes, the geometry at Finch, with it's longer crossovers since it has a center platform, mean a longer headway, a side platform terminal station should have the crossovers beyond the station

I noticed that the new HOV lanes on the 400 have these short transfer lanes added between the HOV and the regular lane where cars enter or exit, first time I've seen this. Also is anyone aware of the timelines or staging for HOV lanes further north?

This is a better layout since it allows for a shorter headway between trains, compared to a terminal station like Finch where the trains spend more time going through the longer crossover tracks, and block other movements while doing so.

You really don't think there would not be idiot riders trying to wedge themselves around a wheelchair user on one of those things?

It would have been retrofitted in later, not enough depth in the floor for the machinery

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

No mention of constructing the Scarborough Junction grade separation? Or was that actually cancelled like was rumored a while ago?

I'd be fine with short crossing arms for the left turn lanes on Eglinton, since that would seem to be the most likely source of LRV/car collisions, and would hopefully make the city not restrict speeds on the line.

My mom worked in an office along this stretch, was already complaining how the line will divide the road, kill business, stop people from crossing the street for lunch, etc, and a bunch of other nonsense that objectors to the St. Clair ROW were spewing. I'm sure fences will really set a bunch of...

The service center on Hwy 400 Southbound at King Road could almost be a small campground. Although I think that one predates the OnRoute Centers.

Yes, that was very likely just gossip, I've worked in construction, the trade workers on the site won't know anything.

When it was a TTC project, which is probably earlier than you are thinking here, the first phase was Eglinton West Station, (Yes I'm going to keep calling it that) to Martin Grove. then going east in sections to Kennedy, then back to the west end to connect to the Airport.

Of course, they had made an announcement a few years prior, funding the the entire line, and was to open in phases starting in like 2015. And then before Ford was Mayor they delayed and shortened it.
