On the pedestrian side, I wonder if a pedestrian overpass would at all be feasible near the tracks, or somewhere similar to continue on the multiuse path beside the retaining wall. With the apartments being built there, pedestrian traffic will likely increase, and that light takes forever to change.

I cannot fathom how someone would want to sit in congestion at a standstill for hours, but perhaps that is just me. Hopefully, as time passes, more people will shift towards other modes of transport (or stop shortcutting through neighbourhoods). Tangential, but that street-level crossing of...

    Miscellaneous

Having said this, some of the driving behaviours around rush hour at that 76 Ave and 115 St intersection in Belgravia is absolutely shocking. On multiple occasions during my bike commute home, I've seen people drive in the oncoming lanes when the traffic is at a standstill. That 115 St and...

A thought... are far-side traffic signals are mandated due to bylaw or provincial law? I feel like near-side signals (eg. at the stop line) similar to the Dutch intersection in Canmore would help certain intersections along the separated bike infrastructure downtown as well as along busy...

In addition to the upgrade to a MUP on 23 Ave between 119 St and 111 St, it appears that a sidewalk will be constructed along the west side of 111 Street between Saddleback Road and 40 Ave this year, which will fill in another missing link...

I think that's still coming. Curious to see what they have planned for that. The railtown MUP and 100 Ave bike lane intersection can definitely be improved, too. Having recently used this a few times, while it's fairly easy to connect to it heading north from the High Level bridge (then east)...

Yeah, it's great that some of these 1970s-1990s-built suburbs are finally coming up to renewal... some those collector roads are in dire need of a road diet. Neighbourhood renewal makes so much of a difference, too. The 1950s and 60s era ones in south-central Edmonton that have recently gone...

The 111 St/Henday interchange can also be a pretty bad chokepoint in the winter (or when there are accidents) as well if needing to get south to Ellerslie road, so having a train option will help, I think.

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

I recall being taught in driver's school to treat it as two lanes - a curb and travel lane, to stay closer to the centre line divider if in the travel lane, and make right turns from the curb lane/left turns from the travel lane. I think you and I are referring to the same thing with your...

And collector roads that are wide enough to accomodate street parking/have a curb lane but only have one central dividing line (technically two lanes going each direction). Much too wide, encourages speeding, and people treat is as if it's a single lane and swerve all over.

https://edmontonjournal.com/news/north-edmonton-residents-baffled-by-improvements-to-neighbourhood-road *groan* Why do news outlets constantly run these types of stories against anything that remotely challenges the supremacy of the automobile?

That is still ridiculously narrow even without a trailer or cargo bike.

If only there were consequences for things such as illegal turns didn't involve getting hit by a train.

    Capital Line LRT

Sent an e-mail suggesting a MUP to fill in the missing link between 9 Ave and 12 Ave NW and was pleasantly surprised when I received a response. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that they are able to fit it in? Shame, because crossing the tracks to continue south/north there will be annoying. If...

    Capital Line LRT

Would have liked to see a sidewalk/MUP added to the east side of 111 St across from Twin Brooks station between 9 and 12 Ave to fill that missing link... especially now that crossing tracks will be required to continue on the path. If you're on the east side you can at least take Running Creek...

Love seeing those slip lanes along 111 St south of 23 Ave going away.

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Yeah... I was also not enthused when I saw the first photo with sharrows and painted bike lanes. If that is going to be the solution for some areas I hope it would come with some other form of traffic calming because just slapping paint on the road is not a solution. The painted sections around...

    Edmonton | Valley Line LRT/ Valley Line West | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton

Honestly I think many people have become ignorant to how dangerous driving is. Possibly a bad comparison, but I always think to when I have to use power equipment in that back room at work to move pallets that weigh 1000++ lbs. There are procedures I need to follow and I need to be...
