Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Unrelated to bike lanes, I'm really excited for the completion of this project, supposedly sometime in the spring. It's a pretty well-travelled MUP for cyclists in the SW of the city, or those going to Cameron Heights out to Devon, and the upgrades were loooong overdue.

    Neighbourhood Renewal

Does anyone know if the 110 St bike lane through Garneau/McKernan is complete (to 76 ave) now, and how conditions are if it is? I haven't ridden in the area for quite a while now but would like to check it out.

    High Level Bridge

Interested to see what they think of for rehabilitation of the MUP on the south approach. With the recent Garneau neighbourhood renewal that section really stands out as needing work.

    Capital Line LRT

I think that the missing sidewalk had been marked in the Paths for People missing links project years back, so maybe there might be a chance that it gets constructed with the city's initiative to construct those. I'm actually curious to see if they keep the slip lane on that particular...

    Capital Line LRT

Never thought of this, but I think you're likely right. I just wish they would have also included some resurfacing for Running Creek Rd as well, as it is in pretty rough shape (probably the same condition it was in when it was still a country road). There's also a missing section of sidewalk...

    Capital Line LRT

Hopefully contruction closures to the MUP going up 111St are minimal, as that is pretty much the only connector for cyclists who live past the Henday to commute into the city. Any detours would be extremely inconvenient.

    Terwillegar Drive Expansion

I noticed that the at least a part MUP is open now (have been out of town for most of the previous months) - does anyone know if it is entirely done?

Not sure where else to post this, but the old Connors Road pedestrian bridge repurposing work is now complete, with the bridge in it's new location crossing the Blackmud Creek in the the current 111 St bridge area.

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

To continue airing my grievances about cycling infrastructure on the southside, here is an example of a completely unnecessary slip lane, leading into the Skyrattler neighbourhood going off 111 Street SB onto Saddleback road (photo is looking eastbound). The turn radius to cross the road and...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Definitely, I've ridden enough kms on roads in this city to know various strategies to keep myself visible to drivers and anticipate certain manoeuvres. It seems that there is a general lack of understanding on the part of many drivers on what it's like to ride a bike on the road. This lane can...

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Late to this, but here is another example of the Saddleback Road (in the SW) painted bike lane near the 23 Ave intersection, earlier this year. Street parking right beside it, 2 parking lot access points (sightlines obscured by parked cars), and a busy intersection ahead of people making turns...

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

I also have to laugh at the 40km/hr sign there because with a street designed like this, you know damn well that nobody is going to adhere to it. With how car-centric this city is (and how selfish some drivers are) the most effective traffic calming method, I feel, is by road design... not sure...

    Southwest Transportation Improvements

I think that I read somewhere (can't quite recall) that supply issues with regard to Covid had delayed the bridge work. All the shoulder extensions/widening are pretty much complete by now, though, in addition to the widened 111 St interchange (exiting EB). Surprised that we haven't seen any...

Jasper Avenue New Vision / Imagine Jasper Avenue

The connection to the MUP/crossing changes are welcome, but overall it is pretty underwhelming.

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

As a frequent winter cyclist, I'd argue that the freeze-thaw cycle is worse to deal with as opposed the -30 or colder days.

    Terwillegar Drive Expansion

I really hope that this project might also include rehabilitation of the MUP as well on the west side of Snow Valley, and possibly the portion including the bridge. The east portion that was redone a few years ago when the ramps were rehabilitated is quite nice but the other side of the hill has...

40 Ave progress, as of today (taken while stopped at the light heading WB, on a bike ride).

Cycling and Active Transportation in Edmonton

Wedgewood Ravine MUP reconstruction (old 184 Street connecting Cameron Heights and Wedgewood, pretty popular for city cyclists heading to the SW) is also likely to occur through September-October, as per the project manager. I do have a copy of the construction bulletin with tentative plans (it...

    Edmonton | 100 Street Funicular and Frederick G. Todd Lookout | ?m | ?s | City of Edmonton | DIALOG

I wish they'd upgrade the Grierson Hill MUP (is it even one?) for an alternative route to DT, especially considering the detours through Louise McKinney Park as well.
