god the amount of the site area devoted to surface parking, why. You could slot a whole other building between these two.

I'm honestly not sure why the city allows cars in there, aside from deliveries. 90% its car free and 10% of the time there is some jerk using it to bypass King. and they're driving 2x what they should.

Slightly off topic but another thing to note about roman concrete is the application was completely different, as it was usually used more like a mortar and mixed with large amounts of ruble, then faced on either side with brick.

gonna be nice to not have that fencing and cars parked there all the time!

iirc there were some original more ambitious renders but I don't think the difference is vast. https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/55a4179de4b0993b2e42f27d/1503512412463-ER8KPSNZWQLPL2AQWBN7/Confederation+GO+01.jpg?format=750w...

Yeah the challenge for Hamilton GO service is going to be getting GO priority tracks added from Burlington to West Harbour, including probably a new crossing over the canal.

Hamilton Toronto | McMaster University Campus Master Plan | ?m | ?s | McMaster University | BDP Quadrangle

It's city policy to remove right turn channels. The exception seems to be where truck routes meet truck routes, and the current provincial "best practice" seems to be those "smart channels" vs just opening up the curb radius all the way. Also note the mcmaster masterplan has zero influence on...

If we use Finch as a yard stick we're probably looking at 2032. Assuming the RFP actually goes out Q1 this year as it was rumoured.

I forgot about James and Cannon as the hollowcore flooring makes me think concrete. Just where the sweet spot is for price, tteel will give you better floorplates as you'll have less column space but I don't think the costs vs concrete work the higher you go. I'd love to see some more mass...

Less about the lack of interior columns (you might actually need more as your distance from the core is longer, but they are using steel here so you can probably get away with longer spans that concrete) and more than the concrete core itself isn't in the middle of your floorplan. Don't see a...

Hamilton Toronto | McMaster University Campus Master Plan | ?m | ?s | McMaster University | BDP Quadrangle

I'd like to see offices be more proactive with commuting incentives, with a sliding scale depending on the mode. Charge for car parking, offer to partially cover transit, offer free indoor bike parking. Doesn't help that parking downtown is only slightly more expensive than the HSR, its clear...

Not a huge fan of the added parking structures, especially given the LRT,.

Can't wait for the switch from people complaining we don't need the LRT to people complaining it will be over capacity.

put enough trees in and who cares what the buildings look like.

    Hamilton Toronto | King William Urban Rentals | 97.56m | 30s | LIUNA | Graziani + Corazza

Our asphalt specs are fine, there was a few years after the City spec transitioned to a different mix spec that contractors seriously did not adapt well (I think main west by Mac is evidence of this). The primary issue in my mind is usually under designed pavement specs on bus stops, utility...

    Hamilton Toronto | 304 Main Street East | ?m | 25s | CT REIT

248 parking spaces for 379 units seems high unless some of those are for commercial space. Would be interestring if CT remained there.

    Hamilton Toronto | 459 Rymal Road West | ?m | 8s

Garth is only a truck route south of the Linc and only day time. However it only has homes fronting it North of the Linc, so this makes some sense for it to be a "road" vs street in this location. NA suburban planning follows the road/street dichotimy in the local/arterial way but now we're...
  18. B

    Hamilton Toronto | 459 Rymal Road West | ?m | 8s

The problem here is Rymal is a truck route, so any road design needs to accomodate a turning WB-20 Semi-truck. You either have a very wide radius, or a "smart channel" which is a fancy slip lane. I'd say the conflict here is that we are making our truck route arterials into higher density...

    Hamilton Toronto | 325 James Street North | 45.7m | 12s | Core Urban Inc. | Lintack Architects

The layout of the buildings on that corner is a bit odd, as the core urban property actually fronts both james and king, but isn't on the corner. Red is the core urban KingJames building, building 2 appears from the roof to be the same structure but is not connected or the same property.

core urban and lintack are killing it, they've found the perfect style and form factors. Would love it if they could develop the parking lot at king williams and james, it would abut one of their restoration projects.
