    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Out of curiosity, how much (if at all) has the reliability of the T1s dropped compared to when they were new?

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

That would've been a regular midlife rebuild to ensure the oldest last 35 years, not a life extension to have them make it to 45. With the exception of 3 car types (H1, H2, H6), all other TTC cars (including the SRT) have always retired in the 35–40 range.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

They never walked away from that plan, it just became Plan B when replacement was brought back to the table, which they now walked away from (hopefully not very far) a few months ago. The real question is, why were they even thinking of extending their lifespan years before they even knew they'd...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

No worries, if duct tape isn't enough they can use these instead: So what? I'm sure there are some 25-y/o streetcars in Bratislava that should make the city nervous too. None of Prague's subway trains ever ran anywhere close to 60 years. The first generation only ran from 1974 to 1997! Yes I...

Ah yes, the same old dismissive "do it yourself" argument. Why not tell the same thing to everyone on the last few pages who all have high expectations of having the TTC/HCRR/politicians save the SRT for them?? Why are some "people offering opinions" confronted with this "challenge" while others...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

You made it sound like it's an argument/excuse not to save the Hawkers ("transit history doesn't revolve around them, so they shouldn't be saved"), to which I pointed out that it's not seen as such for the SRT. As far as subway cars go, yes the Hawkers have thus far been the only subway cars to...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

The whole of transit history isn't embodied in the SRT cars either, so by your logic why bother saving them either. What's even more spiteful and hypocritical is finding the will / finding a way to save anything except a Hawker (at least what's left of the Hawkers as of now, not just 10 years...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Not at all. It only proves what I said before that if the line had simply gotten new cars, the old ones wouldn't be deemed worth saving. The significance of a vehicle should be primarily determined by its intrinsic design features, rather than where/when/how it was used. Like what? Aside from...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

Of course they should have, but they weren't, and there never seemed to be nearly as much advocating to save them as there is now for the SRT (any suggestions of saving something would typically be met with dismissive comments like "buy one yourself" or being called a foamer for wanting X...

Danforth Line 2 Scarborough Subway Extension

What exactly makes the SRT more worthy of saving than the countless other vehicles retired over the past 20+ years that weren't saved? Why the double standard?? If it weren't for the whole line shutting down and they simply replaced the old trains with newer ones, would there still be as much...
