    Toronto Toronto | Park Lawn GO Station | 12.83m | 2s | First Capital | Hatch

Today's peak period express trains only take 32 minutes when running express with one intermediate stop. Off-peak express trains take 33 minutes with 2 intermediate stops: The big speed improvement from GO Expansion comes from the fact that there will be frequent express trains all day...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

If the rate of reporting hasn't changed, then what are you getting at by saying that a lot of assaults weren't reported pre-covid? Presumably a lot of assaults aren't reported post-covid as well.

Has it been reported that the rate of reporting has changed since covid?

    Toronto Toronto | Park Lawn GO Station | 12.83m | 2s | First Capital | Hatch

If you're going "to and from" Toronto then you are coming from outside the City and would probably be on an express train anyway, which doesn't stop here. There are 4 tracks, so the speed of local trains has little effect on the speed of express trains.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The existing tunnel has a speed restriction due to low clearance. Reducing it to 2 tracks will eliminate the speed restriction. There is not enough space for 4 tracks under Islington with the existing grading. They need to build a retaining wall on the south side of the underpass to fit the...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

I don't agree that we need to preserve fare by distance for transfers between local transit agencies, because it only applies to local transit modes, and the transfers are only valid for two hours. People who are travelling longer distances would tend to save a lot of time by using GO as part of...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

In principle your Presto "ticket" is a 2-hour pass, so after 2 hours it is no longer valid. From yrt.ca: If you are riding a proof-of-payment service like Viva 2h01 after your first tap, if you got fare-inspected you would not have a valid fare on your Presto card. However, on pay-as-you...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

With free transfers between GTA local transit agencies, I was wondering what the longest trip that you can legitimately make on a single local fare is. You can't go all the way across the service area because that would take longer than the 2 hours the transfer lasts. In theory you need to be...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Yes. People will always snub the Richmond Hill line because the alignment is way too curvy to for trains to ever run at a competitive average speed. We already separated freight from passenger. The core 260 km of the GO network that Metrolinx is planning to electrify has minimal freight traffic...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

The north platform was extended across the bridge in the 2011 renovation, so the north side stairs have always connected directly to the platform regardless of it being relocated. Aerial view from 2013:

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

You can't just multiply the travel time by two to get the round trip time. You need to add terminal time at both ends to account for the time required for the operator to go to the other end of the car and set up for the other direction, as well as the recovery time required to neutralize delays.

The stopping position was moved west to enable operators to see the new signals at the Conti control point visible in the image.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I've found that many GO bus timetables have impossibly optimistic travel times at the start of the route. For example, Route 25 is scheduled to depart LaurierU only three minutes after it departs UWaterloo: To depart Laurier only 3 minutes after departing UW, you'd need to be unbelievably...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

Are you sure the Bolton proposal via the Newmarket Sub included the option of going to Summerhill? I don't see any way they could reasonably connect those two lines. Surely if they were going to Summerhill they would stay on the CP line and use the existing connection at West Toronto junction.

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

I assume you just have an issue with my wording because what I meant is exactly what you describe here. Like I said, they are prioritizing electrification of Lakeshore because it makes sense to focus on getting at least one line up and running with electric power as quickly as practical so they...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

What matters is not when electrification is completed, what matters is when the first segment enters service. After that point new motive power purchases can be entirely electric for the forseeable future, with the new electric locomotives and EMUs gradually replacing old MP40s and F59s as the...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

This is not a discussion about scheduled operator breaks. An operator's daily schedule includes designated periods where they are given breaks throughout the day and another operator takes over their bus (one example of which is step-back crewing). There is of course their lunch break, but also...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

The most infuriating decision that the City has made to prioritize driving over public transit recently has been to build another pair of traffic lanes on Steeles Avenue East between Kennedy and Midland, and not designate those new lanes as bus lanes even though Steeles East is designated as a...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Queue jump lanes are the single most effective way of improving bus service in the suburbs. Most of the delays occur at the intersection between two arterial roads (e.g. Bathurst & Finch, Keele & Finch, etc) where intersections are limited by capacity. No amount of signal priority or operational...
