GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

It's not just GO moving there; it's Metrolinx, meaning the ARL, Presto, etc. It's pretty much open knowledge in head office that not all of their head office operations will end up at Union.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

A construction trailer/office has appeared on the site in the past few days. I agree, though, that if they weren't going to start until September, they should have kept the additional parking spaces available for longer instead of plunging us into the overcrowned mess that Ajax GO has now become.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

To follow up, GO staff tell me that the $14.30 charge is the fare from Ajax to Hamilton. I should just be charged to the next stop, which would be the minimum $4.20 on most routes, so something funny is going on here that my Toronto-bound trip is triggering the maximum on boarding. They're...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Presto does not set fare policy on any system. Presto is just a payment mechanism; each system sets their own fare policy for Presto. I'm not saying this is the way it should be; I'm saying this is the way it is.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

It's not a technology issue. GO decided that rather than offer a pass approach they would go with a loyalty program. Both approaches have their advantages. Perhaps they should simply offer both.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

They've always planned on having discount programs as stations and buses went live with Presto. The current two month free period was a bit of a late decision, though, so you're right that they may be increasing the cost a bit. Ultimately, GO is going to force the issue but they want to get...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Sorry, my phrasing was unclear. I meant "most GO Prestocard users" have gotten it for free. And yes, eventually they are going to have to say "if you want to ride, this is how you pay for it. No other options, other than undiscounted cash fare, are available."

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I'd suspect that most GO users have gotten the card for free, since they had a free period with each station GO live and are now in the middle of a two month free period. As for a date for discontinuing existing media, I have not heard a date about GO but I know that it has been under...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Never underestimate the power of inertia. Most have not switched because they haven't been forced to switch.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Bear in mind that all Presto trips are discounted from the cash fare, with higher discounts once you are over 35 rides in a month, of course. The GO fare calculator says a 10 ride for that trip costs $67.50, with each fare therefore being 6.750. That's within a rounding error of what you are...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I'm seeing some very different behaviours on some trips. Most of the time, travelling on the 96 bus between Ajax and Yonge Street (just south of Finch terminal), I'm charged $4.20 on boarding and another $1.77 or so upon exiting. But every once in a while, I'm charged something like $14.30 on...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Absolutely. Local transit is certainly important but with a proper long-haul grid, local transit can be handled relatively effectively by buses. The problems we have with local transit are mostly due to having an inadequate grid, forcing local routes to cover long distances.

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

As well, when most people ARE at track level, it's rush hour and the tracks on either side of the platform have trains, so that your view of the shed only exists when looking straight up - which most people do not do. I'm not saying the shed work won't be noticed but I agree that the work...

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

This is just me, but I would prefer to have location-based project threads, so that I could quick read the ones that interest me and ignore the others.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

They sent out email, see below for it captured on twitter via a third-party account. http://twittercounter.com/tweet/MjA4NTA2MDc I agree the publicity approach on this was odd, though. Then again, I've heard enough stories about Presto issues with GO buses - and seen problems on DRT - that...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

It's tomorrow, but it's not a soft launch. There will be GO staff at major bus locations (e.g. GO stations, terminals, etc - although I don't have a list) for the morning rush. Expect an official announcement from GO in the morning as well. It's just they've decided to do the "available now"...

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

Absolutely; it played a major role in "Adventures in Babysitting" so it's clearly historical. :-)

GO Transit: Union Station Shed Replacement & Track Upgrades (Zeidler)

I think we can safely say that the chance of Bremner getting a new streetcar line under the current mayor is essentially zero.

    407 Transitway

They will be full freeways so I would assume a 400 number will be assigned, but I have never heard an indication of what numbers will be used. Yep. However, I'd fully expect that toll operations and payments will be *contracted* out, and I think it's highly likely that the 407 Consortium will...
