Metrolinx : $400M for TTC, GO and other transit

Yay!!! Two steps closer to a coherent regional rail system. Now Georgetown! So they're actually going ahead with Seaton? I thought that was shot down by the province or something? Isn't it in the greenbelt? I saw plans for Seaton once and it frustrated me so much; it looks like...

Frank's Hot Dogs at Yonge and Gould

There's action in there! Is someone finally moving in? Or did Frank's sell all their old equipment?

EWWWWWWWWWWW Thanks for reminding me of that building. Now I'll be having nightmares for the rest of the week.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

This is the second person I've heard of that has MISTAKENLY travelled via GO to Guelph. The Greyhound costs the exact same, is way faster, and by far the most convenient. It's extremely easy to check every mode of transit before going somewhere. No one from Guelph would have ever made that...

Metros Visited Website (and compare the systems)

That was far more fun than it should have been. I got 10, and it immediately made me sad. Toronto Montreal New York San Francisco MUNI Paris London Prague Budapest Vienna Vienna S-Bahn As far as the worst logo goes, I'd have to say Naha. Anyone else notice that Wuppertal looks like...

I agree with everything you said so far. I went in this morning and gave it a thorough lookthrough, and from what I can see, this is going to be a huuge letdown. It feels kind of jaded to say this but I don't think TLS would be anything without the AMC theatre. I can see that being the only...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

The reason for that is to try and more evenly utilize the resources of the TTC. If someone has to pay extra for a bus at rush hour, they're less likely to do their shopping at rush hour. That way the peak buses are less crowded (hopefully reducing the horror stories of buses not stopping because...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I think the main advantage of the Presto card (for transit authorities, at least) is flexibility. They don't have to decide yet what fare system they want to implement; we can have that discussion as citizens and if we don't like the new way, they can just as easily change it back. As long as...

York Gardens Town Homes (346 Jarvis, 4s)

http://www.haffwood.com/builders-tall-towns-work-on-narrow-city-lots.htm "By July, Maizels plans to build and sell a third project, Jarvis Mews, located on Jarvis St. north of Carlton St." I'm absolutely 100% sure I read an article about these units a couple years ago in the Globe I...

Both very good points. The thing with the steps on the stage is that there's sort of a perception that the stage isn't public space. And the informality of it is weakened by the fact that the stage is the focus of the square's attention; It's all meant to face the stage; you only go up there if...

Also, they're not really somewhere where you can sit and relax. Nor are they somewhere to meet someone. Most uses for a city square involve not getting wet. And most people on Dundas Square aren't walking there because they need to go somewhere; it is not the most direct route between any two...

Totally agreed. Although it couldn't really go in the centre of the square because it would obstruct the view of the stage. Having some sort of fun object with lots of steps and places to sit at the south edge would be perfect! More than anything else, that is what the square is missing.

Also, they're more or less done the east side of the building and the sidewalk along Victoria is finally walkable. Here's a question for anyone in the know: There are two gigantic billboard-sized holes on the east side of TLS just above Lake Devo. They've got the hooks ready and everything...

    Concrete's Liberating Allure

The University of Guelph campus is swimming in brutalism. I had a like/hate relationship with it during my time there. The library is fairly good (the 5th and 6th floors are a treat), the University Centre is alright, I guess, but Macnaughton and Mackinnon are pretty bland and not innovative at...
