    Monorail for Toronto

I think that is the point - the Fords propose some cockamamie scheme, the whole plan falls apart because of unrealistic funding and expectations, then they sell the land to a private developer buddy of theirs.

    Roads: Roundabouts

Maybe they should put a large sign in the island, explaining to people what a yield sign is. Yes, it is quite pathetic, but there are too many pathetic drivers. They should also put up those radar signs to guilt people into slowing down, or maybe rumble strips.

    CNE Air Show

Hopefully the weather is nice this year. Last year it was cancelled the day I went due to windy weather. It is amusing that the Canadian airshow is showcasing US military might.

    Toronto Toronto | Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

I don't think the Doug Ford actually has a coherent plan. He loves to muse about these things, make soundbites, give grand visions, and suggest that it is all possible with private funding. Remember his bury the Gardiner, and have a tunnel with multiple levels for road and rail? And sell the...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

The way I see it, is Doug's vision is like this: http://www.broadwayatthebeach.com/ Ironically or perhaps fittingly, this isn't located near the beach. I'll admit, it appeals to some people, and the Ford Bros. would enjoy themselves there. But this doesn't belong in a city like Toronto...

    Waterfront: General Topics

Here's an idea: Find out who the biggest campaign supporters are for those councilors and boycott those businesses. Most of the city councilors are spineless and will switch allegiances if their position in power is threatened.

    Waterfront: General Topics

If we indulge Doug Ford, would his proposal be suitable for Ontario Place / Exhibition grounds only? Construct a monorail to move people around the two venues, but not connected to the TTC. We don't need yet another barrier to the lake. Have surface LRT to move people to the new Ontario...

    Waterfront: General Topics

http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1046757--doug-ford-s-dream-waterfront-ferris-wheel-monorail-and-a-boat-in-hotel?bn=1 What's up with Doug Ford's vision of Toronto waterfront? Monorails, floating hotels, luxury megamalls, ferris wheel. It's so Simpsons-esque.

Everyone seems to be missing the obvious: the guy is traveling west, away from Toronto, the centre of the universe.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Not sure if this belongs in this thread, but there is a win lunch with Doug Ford (or Sue-Ann Levy) contest! Why are lower taxes good for Toronto? http://www.torontotaxpayer.ca/Contests/Fill-In-The-Blanks It would be funny if a "communist" won.

Getting Out Of Nuclear Will Cost Us

Yes, storing electricity is difficult. But consider this: During the tourist season, the two hydroelectric plants on the Niagara River (Robert Moses, Sir Adam Beck, ) are not allowed to use the flow of the river to generate electricity during the day. It doesn't look good for the tourists when...

    Mississauga Toronto | Limelight Condominiums | ?m | 32s | Daniels | Kirkor

Awesome, Limelight, will actually be...lime. Although I think Black and Lime would look slick, instead of the white.

    Earthquakes 2010 and 2011!

Last year we annoyed Ottawans with the "I survived the Toronto Quake" t-shirts. So this year we can tick off the Americans :D

    Nathan Phillips Square Homeless Issue

Everyone keeps asking about New York City, here is an interesting article about the last homeless person in Times Square, and what they did to reduce the numbers of homeless in Times Square. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/03/30/nyregion/30heavy.html The article is from 2010, and I could not...

    Sherway (Greenfield South) Power Plant

Let's see how the residents react if 100 wind turbines are installed in the neighbourhood - that is almost the equivalent of the the one power plant being built, and no emissions!

    Exodus to the Burbs

The article in the LA Times is highlighting that white suburbanites are moving back to the inner city, perhaps too many non-whites in the suburbs now ;) I agree with you that cities are growing. Because of the ensuing firefight between "urban" and "suburban" living camps, I wanted to point...

    Exodus to the Burbs

http://articles.latimes.com/2011/jul/25/opinion/la-oe-rodriguez-whitecities-20110725 This article in the LA times is interesting - the opposite seems to be happening in the US. Suburbanites are flocking to the big city. Some of you may not like the implications outlined in the article...
