Do you mean to say "now closed"?

^No. What people like Tim Cartmell are doing does not amount to an actionable wrong. Don't get me wrong: I don't like Cartmell particularly, but the idea that he should be personally liable for criticism of the administration of a city-led project is absurd. We don't want to go down that road.

Yes, that's exactly right. Kingsway mall was vehemently against accommodating space for the LRT line. Later, they changed their tune.

^Okay but only if you take the office next to my annoying coworker who will attempt to talk to you about Rebel News headlines and Tucker Carlson clips all day.

    Downtown Crime

Sample sizes and all that, but of my coworkers who work hybrid arrangements (i.e. downtown and at their respective homes), none of them cite "safety" as their reason for wanting to work at home. They all cite getting a break from annoying coworkers and wasting time commuting to and from work...

Don't forget the implication that pedestrian infrastructure is somehow separate entirely from the concept of "transportation infrastructure". I've read some hot takes on this forum, but rarely have I guffawed so hard.

It would be cool if City Centre could do something with the old RTDRS space. Wasn't that a Smytty's way back in the day??

    Edmonton | CNIB Redevelopment | 106m | 32s | ONE Properties | Wallman Architects

The sake bar (Ikki) closed months ago, sadly. But I otherwise agree with your sentiment. Plenty to do within a 15 minute walk of this building. You're not hurting for amenities/entertainment spots nearby.

^100%. I think the move was very well-intentioned, but they really murdered their own golden goose here.

    Downtown Farmers Market

It goes to show what a draw the location was. The selling point of the 104th Street market was the freedom to roam a pretty street in the open air, with brick buildings enveloping you and little cafes and restaurants to pop into if you so desired. The old Army & Navy building, while kind of a...

    Downtown Farmers Market

It's a shame they didn't just stay on 104 in the first place, but that's water under the bridge. Maybe a new organization can rise like a phoenix out of their ashes and bring the market back to where it had its most success.

Every time I look at this thread, and the images within, I remember that in my mind, I pronounce "DER + Associates" as "Durrr and Associates".

^Folks, I did not mean to stir the pot. Thank you for the information.

^Thanks. I kind of guessed based on IanO's cryptic comment that the Cask & Barrel folks might be involved.

    Downtown

Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere, but I noticed that the former 7/11 on Jasper/104 in the Jaffer Building has a "LEASED" sign above its windows now. Anyone know what's moving in there?

    Edmonton | Hat @ 122 | 35.96m | 12s | Cidex Group | NORR

I'm not in any hurry to see that crappy little commercial building razed. That's actually a better-than-you'd-expect liquor store, and World's Finest makes some of the best donairs in the area. Often times, it seems that businesses like these can't afford the rents charged (or TIs required) in...

    Edmonton | Connect Centre | 56.3m | 16s | ONE Properties | DIALOG

I'd rather pay $5 at Commerce Place and walk a few blocks. Is there a better deal for heated underground event parking downtown??
  19. G

    Edmonton | Wadhurst Townhomes | 11.75m | ?s

This is true, though worth noting that 3 or 4 of the really old homes on Wadhurst Road have no garages at all (because they back into a ravine and front-facing garages were not the norm back then). I agree with the broader point that there is an extremely limited market for homes without...

    Alberta Politics

The mayoral-to-premier pipeline in Alberta is historically surprisingly weak. I mean, yes, there's Ralph Klein (and his runner-up, Laurence Decore), but not much else. Harry Strom was a municipal councilor, but I'm hard-pressed to think of any Premier who had much in the way of substantial...
