    VIA Rail

    55 Thursday is new! :)

    VIA Rail

Sure, but if VIA is going to provide a schedule it should at least be up to date, even if the medium itself is outdated.

This schedule at Trenton is from pre-covid. I'm guessing it's out of date?

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

I have not felt the effects of the Gardiner because I live downtown and take transit to work. Weird how that works. CP24 doing a good TorontoLife impression here.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Wardens were not at King/Jarvis when I went by again at 530. Strange that they would be there at 130 and not during a busier time, especially considering this is a bad intersection for drivers blocking intersections and streetcars (not nearly as bad as Jarvis & Richmond, though). There was a...

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Traffic wardens out on King today. I noticed them at Jarvis, Yonge, and Bay, but there may have been others elsewhere. Also saw a police pull over a driver for driving through an intersection on Saturday. Didn't ticket them but gave them a talking-to...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Eh, it feels like a dubious map. Germany might technically have no limit but that's only on de-regulated zones of the Autobahn. Everywhere else has a posted limit.

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

My anecdotal experience is that riders at those stations (Napanee/Trenton) aren't taking the train to commute for work - they're taking the train to visit Toronto or to go further elsewhere. I'm not convinced they're taking the train return the same day. The largest groups on the Ottawa-Toronto...

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

The first reason I can think of is that Napanee is a close stop to Kingston and Trenton a close stop to Belleville. There's only about 15 minutes between the former and 10 between the latter. Smiths Fall is 30 minutes away from the next station in either direction. I imagine they stop in Port...

    VIA Rail

Some of it is for sure. I'm not an expert but there is definitely more "sway" on the older cars compared to the newer ones. Riding the Corridor once I was put into a much older car for Car 5 at the end and it swayed enough to make one nauseous.

The DVP works the same way: know when to avoid it and it's totally fine.

    Toronto Toronto | Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

The lack of communication b/w Metrolinx and the Province is staggering to say the least here. Embarrassing policy walkback regardless of how you feel about either option.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

I agree with you. The logic seems to be that they're spooked about the CPC winning in Fall '25 and then Ontario flipping opposite of the feds as they always do in 2026. So run an election in Spring '25 ahead of the Fed election to prevent that from happening. Seems unlikely but not the craziest...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

This jives with the Paikin article today suggesting that Ford may pull the trigger early on an Ontario election to get ahead of the 2025 federal election.

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

Drivers will always ignore signs or other lights if they think they can. A week ago I had a lengthy wait for a bus on King at Spadina and watched as loads of WB vehicles simply turned left from a lane that didn't exist and/or went straight despite signage telling them not to. Later on that walk...

    VIA Rail

I am enough of a masochist that I am now Premier level of VIA Rail for 2024-2025 and have default access to the business lounges. I've been to the Ottawa and Montreal lounges before but outside of Union and Quebec City I...don't think there are any others? The VIA website lists the following as...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

These all sound like personal questions to overcome more than systemic ones. Kingston and London are both in the corridor and so aren't really relevant to this thread precisely, nevermind the fact that Kingston is closer to Ottawa airport than Pearson for connections. Depending on where one is...

    Toronto Toronto | The Well | 174.03m | 46s | RioCan | Hariri Pontarini

Really love how this has turned out. Took the Spadina car down and Spadina/Front felt incredibly busy and alive on a Sunday afternoon. Big groups of people out walking around. Interior design is good, really appreciate the stairs connections to Wellington. A massive improvement for the area.
