    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Except no one going to the airport uses this section of 401. How quickly people make fun of 401 for being called a "bypass" originally and then forget that there were more urban expressways in the original plan that would actually have let 401 operate as a bypass.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Good points. I was thinking of an even simpler solution that could be implemented immediately, is just force one of the "express" lanes to drop just before the merge with the "collectors". The collectors could then keep 2 full lanes plus a 3rd ending lane (where the 2nd lane currently ends)...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Flexible bollards could be used at a few key spots but they would have to be removed during winter. This location on 403 is probably the worst because traffic from 410/401 collectors has to sit in a miserable queue until they can access the HOV lane, which is lightly used only by 401 express...

That's not really true, especially in the morning. Using 410 to 407 east will be a big time saver as well. Too many lanes leads to excessive "weaving" (lane changes) which slows down traffic and reduces capacity. This has been analyzed many times starting the 1950s...

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

That's great for a transportation system that does not require trucks or any large vehicles.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Just a thought: Finch is seeing massive widening and property expropriation to be able to squeeze in new median LRT "lanes". Many intersections are getting new right turn lanes, additional left turn lanes, and other types of improvements. Has a study ever looked at what if the new median...

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

It will be reduced to two lanes (from four) in each direction for 2 years or so. Shouldn't be as bad as when the western part from Jameson to Spadina had lane reductions. Some ramps will have full time closures though, could make finding a detour painful.

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

No, because in addition to LRT east-west signals, there are also bicycle AND pedestrian signals going east-west. So the potential for conflicts is too high.

Road Safety & Vision Zero Plan

Toronto already does that where the LRT/Streetcar is at the edge of the road (as opposed to in the middle). All right turns are prohibited along Queens Quay Eastbound next to the LRT ROW.

The traffic lights actually improve things a lot. Pedestrians would constantly stream across the previous intersection which only had stop signs, backing up traffic onto Dundas. Now the flow is much more predictable as well as safer for pedestrians.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Good idea, but unfortunately, wouldn't building new heavy rail connecting the "downtown" of the outlying suburbs be impossible? Can new heavy rail be built at all? We've seen expansion of existing lines but it doesn't seem possible to add new lines to already developed areas. 407 ROW doesn't...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Population of the GTA is expected to increase by almost 50% by 2041, with the bulk of that in the 905 (mostly in York, Peel, Halton). https://www.fin.gov.on.ca/en/economy/demographics/projections/#s3d While expanding GO Train capacity is good for accessing the 25% or so of GTA jobs that are in...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Just look at Highway 407 east of 48 (Donald Cousens Parkway). It was constructed to Brock Road about 20 years ago and barely any development.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Pretty smart. And pretty dumb of Wynne to put it on hold/cancel it. I'm fairly certain 90% of people in the GTA would want this highway (transit/bike geeks excluded obviously).

Whoops. Check out this site for more info: http://www.qewcreditriver.ca/ with detailed drawings here: http://www.qewcreditriver.ca/Documents.html Unfortunately the only lane that will be immediately added is a continuous lane EB from Mississauga Road to Hurontario. HOV will have to wait until...

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Probably has to do with utility relocations. It seems like every project is getting delayed by utilities.

Just turn left before Aukland onto Viking Lane, or do a u-turn on Dundas and take the EB-SB ramp.

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

This is normal. Financial close is usually reached a month or so after award. Usually to address any cost related issues that may have arisen between RFP submission (Dec 2017) and award (now), as well as finalizing all the formal paperwork as others have mentioned. It happens for all of these...

Cosmos Condos CANCELLED (VMC, Liberty 4 towers to 35s, Kirkor)

So why doesn't every condo builder do this? Prices have increased almost 50% over the past two years and construction expenses have also increased.
