    Rob Ford's Toronto

"Torontians" heh Yes, Torontonians do say "Toronto" in a slurred way, but not with a "ch" sound at the beginning, and there is usually a vowelly thing going on between the first t and the o. Sometimes Ford also works in a bit of a u sound at the end, too. Ugh.

Can't he be impeached just for saying "chronno"? Doesn't a mayor have to pronounce the city's name right? Sorry. Pet peeve.

It's not like I said there had to be appearance-monitors at protests. But it's fact that most people will only join a group that they think they will fit into, including and especially appearance-wise.

I never used the word normal. By "mainstream", I mean the mainstream definition - general, common, widely accepted, not-fringe.

I didn't say anything about restricting. They can wear what they like, and accept the consequences.

I think protests have their place and their uses, but would be less alienating to mainstream people if the protestors looked more mainstream themselves. I know - it's superficial, but image matters in this culture. So the piercings, tattoos, weird hair & clothes - all that needs to be toned...

I never said it did. Dear god, your reading comprehension needs a lot of work.

    The Condo Game [CBC Documentary]

You should definitely look at the links I posted upthread, one from right here on UT. If between those links and the documentary you still think a condo is a wise choice, good luck to you. One thing though: a lot of your comments are based on the assumption that current conditions will just...

She's definitely not "enormously compassionate". She's let slip a few details about how she parents her children and ... yikes. And she didn't say a word about corruption. ETA: Her early-20s daughter is currently in a "transitional year" program at university, which is like a pre-university...

Or it could be that lots of people's brains aren't suited to it. We did not evolve needing to deal with propaganda, mass advertising, or even needing basic literacy and numeracy. We're dangerously bad at long-term thinking.

As it happens, this woman is the daughter of immigrants and her extended family has people of several different races/ethnicities. Which makes her attitude even odder. My guess is it's a case of "I've got mine Jack".
  13. T

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Oh yes, that too. And it's easy to stick to websites etc that only confirm your beliefs, never challenge them. The combo of too much info and not enough thinking skill is very dangerous.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

You know that special kind of cognitive dissonance (or whatever the correct term is) that makes some Americans thinks that Obamacare is socialist enslavement but Medicare is A-OK? I think that is what Ford Nation has. I also have this vague idea that perhaps modern society has reached a level...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

They are more than just allegations but anyway, as was discussed pages ago, people have ignored domestic violence for a very long time, and aren't likely to suddenly care about it now.
  16. T

    Rob Ford's Toronto

But our society has been tolerating domestic violence for a LONG time. There is plenty of evidence of that. And no evidence that Torontonians are really concerned about these allegations against Ford. It hardly gets a mention. And it's easy to dismiss given that at this stage they are just...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

OK, the Steubenville case was ONE example, and I gave it because it was well-known, not because it was exactly like the Ford situation. Do some research - abuse, rape, domestic violence is hushed up, explained away, covered up and disbelieved all the time. I found this is like 2 seconds...
  18. T

    Rob Ford's Toronto

I don't know why you think so. There are plenty of current examples of abusive behaviour being explained away, victims not believed, seeing the perpetrator as the victim, etc. E.g. the Steubenville rape case and all that slush about how the convicted rapists' lives were "ruined" by the...

Yet you still haven't proven that the risk is greater or that the supposed greater risk actually has real world impacts on maintenance. >>I never said the risk is greater, or smaller. I've been saying that the risk is there, and the condo owner has FAR less ability to do anything about it. If...

    The Condo Game [CBC Documentary]

My "proof in the pudding" position....that the average residential condo building is better maintained than the average freehold house, commercial rental building, or public housing. You asked for actual stats, rather than disagreeing, because you know this is true and flies in the face of your...
