Finch Avenue West: Opportunities for Improved Bus Service

    New York - 800m Paris - 700m Berlin - 850m Philadelphia - 750m Milan - 900m Barcelona - 750m Brussels - 650m Vienna - 750m Frankfurt - 700m Rome - 800m Lisbon - 850m Oslo - 850m Buenos Aires - 750m (your same calculation, rounded to the nearest 50m)

Define "most systems." I know New York's stops are rarely more than a half mile apart.

Finch Avenue West: Opportunities for Improved Bus Service

2km as a "cushy medium"? Good lord. If we did things that way on Bloor St W the only stops would be Kipling, Royal York, Jane, Keele, Dufferin, Bathurst, and Yonge. Stop spacing should be around 650-800m generally. 1km should be the upper limit. 2km is just ridiculous. No one is going to walk...

The current SRT is impossible to convert to an HRT route. You'd have to build an entirely new tunnel.

Finch Avenue West: Opportunities for Improved Bus Service

That reduces the chance they'll walk further to get to the bus. People will only walk so far, no matter how fast the transit goes.

Finch Avenue West: Opportunities for Improved Bus Service

I believe he said it, but it's completely impossible.

Finch Avenue West: Opportunities for Improved Bus Service

quoth the report: I am inclined to agree. I would hope for the centre lane option but given the current mayor that doesn't seem very likely. Let's hope we at least get the queue jump option.

Steve Munro actually said that Metrolinx wanted to drop Chaplin in order to speed up crosstown trips.

Bathurst is 700m away from Chaplin and up a relatively steep hill. That may be walking distance for some people, but not for everyone. Edit: It's also uphill BOTH ways, since the top of the hill is Old Forest Hill Road.

Okay so based on the presentation we know for a fact that we'll be keeping Keele, Caledonia, Dufferin, Eglinton West, and Bathurst stations. From there west, based on that 1km stop spacing figure, we can be relatively sure that we'll also get stops at Avenue, Eglinton-Yonge, Mt Pleasant...

    Toronto's and Province's New 12.4B Eglinton/SRT/Sheppard Plan

Hope you weren't expecting to use the Richview Corridor for that western section. http://stevemunro.ca/?p=5120

From Steve Munro: http://stevemunro.ca/?p=5109 Mayor Ford sure doesn't seem that interested in actually getting that subway of his actually built.

    Transit City Plan

You're assuming "enhanced bus service" was actually going to be enhanced in some way. For all we know he intended to run an express bus from Finch West to Humber College and leave it at that.

Poll: What Should The New Eglinton/Scarborough LRT/Metro Be Called?

Yeah I feel like building a subway 200m away from one subway and 400m from another kinda might be a complete waste of money.
  15. T

    Transit City Plan

I know that one dude "Darren in TO" brings up the DRL on like every single transit-related newspaper article in the Globe, the Post, and the Star. It gets kind of obnoxious actually. I'd be careful about reading too much into newspaper comments. They're just as insular as any other forum and...

McGuinty was the chopper. Miller was quite openly critical of the decision to cut back the lines.

    Toronto's and Province's New 12.4B Eglinton/SRT/Sheppard Plan

Of note in that document: "Sheppard East" is described as having two stations and "Sheppard West" is described as having seven. I assume that would mean Downsview, Bathurst North, Consumers, Vic Park North, Warden North, Kennedy North, Agincourt, Progress, and Scarborough Centre.
  18. T

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

It's wider on the whole. Eglinton will be 26 stops over 25km, Bloor is 31 over 26km.
  19. T

    Toronto's and Province's New 12.4B Eglinton/SRT/Sheppard Plan

Even new density on Sheppard won't necessarily generate the ridership required for a subway though. Bayview has seen plenty of development since the subway opened but its station is still one of least used on the entire system. Nor do you really need a subway to spur on new development. Just...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Rob Ford wants transit underground so transit goes underground. You're wasting your time looking for any kind of logic besides that.
