    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Okay so the press release described the combined Eglinton-Scarborough Line as having "up to 26 stops". I think that means we can probably guess the new station list: Black Creek, Keele, Caledonia, Dufferin, Oakwood, Eglinton West, Bathurst, Chaplin, Avenue, Eglinton-Yonge, Mt Pleasant, Bayview...

Poll: What Should The New Eglinton/Scarborough LRT/Metro Be Called?

"Eglinton Crosstown Metro" would seem to fit the bill.

    Toronto's and Province's New 12.4B Eglinton/SRT/Sheppard Plan

Of all the stops on Eglinton, why is Weston Road not being buried? Aren't they going to have to demolish all those houses if they keep it above ground? Also all the articles talk about Jane to STC. Does this mean no more McCowan station?

    Transit City Plan

You say this as if it's self-evident but I can't see what's so "braindead" about not extending a subway we don't actually need. The only argument I've ever heard that kind of makes sense is that people don't like the transfer, but the planned arrangement at Don Mills had the LRVs literally...

    Transit City Plan

Since when is the Sheppard subway "our entire heavy rail network"?
  6. T

    Transit City Plan

It's a little master plan I call "Don't extend the Sheppard line in the first place because it's not actually required for the projected ridership." Crazy, I know. Transit City may have its flaws but it isn't even in the same bad idea universe as converting 60km of perfectly good subway to...

    Transit City Plan

Not in a million years could anyone come up with a worse idea than this.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Yeah thinking about it more, 800m was a actually pretty conservative estimate. There are a lot of stops that far apart on the system but there also a fair number that are closer to 700m or 600m, and not just in Manhattan. And of course below 59th Street it gets even closer than that.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

No pretty much in all of New York. If anything the stations in Manhattan are often closer. The spacing between Bathurst and Avenue without Chaplin would be around 1400m. The spacing between Eglinton West and Dufferin without Oakwood would be around 1200m. Removing Chaplin would be especially...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Stop spacing in New York is typically around half a mile (800m), often shorter but rarely longer. In Toronto terms, New York style spacing would be to have 2 stops in between concession roads rather than 1 or 0.

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Getting rid of Rangoon would be a problem since it provides access to Eringate and the nearest stops are Renforth (around 1km away and in the middle of nowhere) and East Mall (on the other side of a highway). And I'm guessing the people in that retirement home would have a problem with axing...

    TTC: Sheppard Subway Expansion (Speculative)

I don't really think you can say he made it a priority. The other three lines all got funding before Sheppard East. The only reason construction on Sheppard started before Finch and Eglinton was that they had to do the grade separation at Agincourt before they could build the rest of the line...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

It's certainly possible. Although back in 2009 Steve Munro said that Chaplin was "rumoured to be under attack from Metrolinx boffins because it would slow down crosstown journeys". And the Dufferin-Oakwood-Allen stop spacing is closer than on the rest of the original underground segment. If it...

    Toronto Toronto | Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Removing Chaplin would be a huge mistake. Aside from the spacing issue, Bathurst and Avenue are both at the top of hills. That's going to be inconvenient for the people living in between.
  15. T

    Transit City Plan

We've heard from several people now that Eglinton East is going underground, and burying that much LRT will effectively eat up all the money for improvements on Finch and Sheppard. The details of the plan may not be known but the broad outlines of it certainly are, so I think it's fair to make a...
  16. T

    Transit City Plan

The comparison doesn't include unfunded lines. So no Jane LRT for Transit City and no Sheppard Subway for Ford. It's strictly a comparison of Finch West+Sheppard East+Surface Eglinton+SRT vs. Underground Eglinton+SRT. Which considering the complaints about the last map is an entirely fair...
  17. T

    Transit City Plan

Those numbers do not in fact include Jane LRT. They're comparing the original truncated Transit city (Finch W, Sheppard E, partially-above ground Eglinton, and an extended and converted SRT) with a fully grade separated Eglinton and a Scarborough RT conversion.

    Transit City Plan

People call Bessarion overbuilt? It's literally the minimum you would want to have for a station without a bus transfer.
  19. T

    Transit City Plan

As far as I know ALL the proposals for the Sheppard Subway omit Birchmount station. IMO that is a huge mistake.
  20. T

    Transit City Plan

For people with accessibility issues it certainly is. Also there would be kind of a feeder bus with the Yonge Blvd branches of the 97. And you could extend the 103 Mount Pleasant North to meet the station.
