It's about time! Honestly, although we haven't had any acutual system expansion during the last few years the bus fleet was upgraded and now our subways! Not bad!

Why Telework (Working from home) is dangerous to cities.

http://news.cnet.com/2100-1017-248676.html Intresting article about telework and I think it's kind of what you all were getting at. I lilke the part about "satellite" offices where employees can book cubilcles instead of heading to the main office every day, but they can still avoid the...

Why Telework (Working from home) is dangerous to cities.

I must have been jumping to conclusions, sorry. Honestly after reading the article I was scared all day of seeing our beautiful downtown dead and empty during the day......logically there will always need to be office space, but some telework can be useful to bring down costs etc. Perhaps it's...

Why Telework (Working from home) is dangerous to cities.

Maybe you're right, and I sure hope so! I know most teleworkers still need to go to the office, and meet clients so I hope this means that living downtown will still be desireable. I was just worried about Joel Kotkin's predictions that telework would be the saviour of the suburbs.

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

I'd say King West is the new Club district in the sense that the House and Hip Hop dance clubs are starting to move there. I love Ossington, but has more of a live music/bar vibe.

Why Telework (Working from home) is dangerous to cities.

I agree with you! Dense and efficient development is a good in and of itself. They point I was trying to make is that society as a whole seems to value the whole big house in the suburbs view of success. Telework means that you no longer have to live within any real distance of the city. I'm...

Why Telework (Working from home) is dangerous to cities.

http://www.joelkotkin.com/content/00251-myth-back-city-migration Another article by Kotkin.....I sincerely hope he is wrong! We don't need more suburbs!

Why Telework (Working from home) is dangerous to cities.

http://www.joelkotkin.com/content/00273-mass-transit-great-train-robbery I'm sure a lot of you have heard of Joel Kotkin. In the face of all evidence he has continued to push suburban development accross North America. His basic premise is that with new communication technology, we can all...

James: How do we make Toronto great? Here's how

It's not the flowers themselves that would make Toronto great, it's the act of civic engagement that would to into planting them. James wants us to be involved and intrested in our city and its neighbourhoods

James: How do we make Toronto great? Here's how

I usually like what Royson James has to say, and hes so right here! Of course the hard right that oppose all taxes will never be happy, we should be providing good value to taxpayers, and it's not necessarily conservative to say so. Instead of a debate over "big" or "small" government, we should...

Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

You hit the nail on the head right there! I live in east Scarborough and I find that any of my neighbours who plan to vote, absolutely love Ford! When asked, a majority said they rarely go to other parts of the city except for work; most head to the local suburban Kelseys as a 'night out'. That...

    Thornhill

York Region as a whole is apparently dedicated to the principles of New Urbanism. Not that you can see much of it now, but its nice to know that even the 'burbs are beginning to see the light; somewhat. My girlfriend lives in Markham and her parents think nothing of driving around the corner on...

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

This is exaclty why Rob Ford should never be Mayor......he is essentially trying to get the rest of the city to conform to his model of 1950's suburbia. Have you heard his comments about how Toronto is 'dirty'?

Am I right that the new TR's will only be for the YUS? This summer fingers crossed.

Rob Ford wants to terminate the "War on Cars"....

Sums it up basically! He would be a complete disaster. As would Rossi. The real question is, how to we leverage pro transit candidates into office if these two have the suburban homeowner locked down? I'd say by mobilising tenants. I don't have any concrete stats but I would assume a higher...

    Toronto Council Races - 2010

I've been trying to find any information on Samuel Getachew, he's running for council in my ward (43) and I'm happy to see someone other than Ainslie in the running.

Rob Ford wants to terminate the "War on Cars"....

We shoulden't dismiss him, he is a boob, but some suburban people (my neighbours) seem to think he his amazing for his anti city approach. We need to be on guard.

    Prostitution

Smoke's poutinerie is amazing! and for my second point.... I have never heard a dumber argument for legalizing something, lots of things 'happen anyway' but you don't go and make them legal. I can understand that arresting prostitutes doesen't necessarily work and may be rather opressive...
