Keep jobs and their employees in the city = reduced sprawl and gridlock

There are still a fair number of factories in Scarborough that are close to the RT line. It seems that industry in the core is dead, but there are parts of Toronto that are still industrial, and hopefully won't move to the 905.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Sounds good, I hope the TR subways are serviceable before then!

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

I am a Scarborough resident, I just don't have the 'traditional' suburban mentality of ignoring everything that isnt about the neighbours, the lawn, or how many gas guzzlers to own. The opponents of the Sheppard LRT at that meeting dont really want a subway, they just want to preserve their...

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

What I think was meant was that many of the condo dwellers were former suburbanites. It seems that out of control condo development is strangling all nightlife, not just the club district.

Keep jobs and their employees in the city = reduced sprawl and gridlock

Of course its natural for employment to spread from the traditional downtown or CBD, but I think the issue is the general hollowing out of employment in Toronto. All the TTC improvements in the world wont get you to work if your company moves to Markham. Are lower taxes the answer? Or will less...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

Does anyone have any info on when the first ones are meant to be in service? and on what routes? TTC staff seem to be tight lipped about this.

Transit expansion for a better Toronto! (Rally/Protest idea)

I don't have any experience organizing any protests, but I'll help out any way I can! PM me, and we can get this started.

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

This is what many people are waiting for, I was just at the mayoral candidates meeting in Scarborough.....both Rossi and Ford have a lot of angry suburban supporters. The kind who push for privatized services and no taxes. We need progressives who don't waste money, but they don't seem to exist!

Ontario Budget Cut and Transit Expansion

Add in the fact that part of this 'terrible' deficit was caused by the bailout of the auto companies. I agree that highway expansion should be cut before transit, but consider the demographic that actually votes. Those suburbanites are lucrative votes, and for the most part they don't care all...

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

As a '416 er' I share your general dislike of the suburbs, but at the same time, everyone in the city doesen't want to go to indie bars. This in NOT an attack on anyone's musical tastes, it just strikes me as rather ironic when the club opponents have no problem with other bars when they open...

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

yes we do! Many Red tories feel homeless, the Liberals at all levels seem to have no real dicrection, modern Conservatives (Ontario PC's too) are trying their best to become clones of the GOP. We need a real fiscally responsible but socially progressive option. To clarify, by 'fiscally...

TTC Fare Zones (Possible solution to offset Capital and/or Operating costs)?

Some other posters have already brought up this issue, with a fare card, you never really know how much your trip is going to cost each day, especially if the TTC brings in zoned fares. Metropass is a simple lump sum, increasing ease of movement and getting rid of the uncertainty.

Durham, province at odds over growth

Mississauga Transit has some form of light rail/urban plan in the works, and at least York Region has VIVA, so if you're lucky enough to live near Yonge St or Highway 7 you can get around without a car.....Durham on the other hand is the highest of suburban wasteland. I wonder if it would be...

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

Thats true, other than his irrational hatred for clubs, he's got some good ideas.

TTC Fare Zones (Possible solution to offset Capital and/or Operating costs)?

With PRESTO in place, what is the fate of the Metropass? I'm not sure if this question belongs here, but it worries me. I feel so mobile with my pass!

Fingers crossed! If they're testing them now, that means full use can't be far off, right?

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

Never saw drug dealing when I went to the clubs, but yes, public urination was a huge problem. I agree that residents should not have to put up with that......but then again, no one told them to move into a condo next to a club! This is not a Soviet command economy, people choose to live where...

    North End vs. South End

It was just a funny article, I don't know what all the fuss is about! Although, I agree with whoever said that anything south of Lawrence is accessable. North of that may as well be annexed by Vaughan, its basically suburbia anyways. (This is coming from a York University student)
  19. T

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

I should clarify, perhaps contracted out garbage service MAY be a good idea in light of the city's budget woes. I just oppose the mantra that public services are simply inefficient versions of the private sector.

Private transit less rare than you’d think

Perhaps it can save money, but look at what these two systems are meant to do. GO and VIVA/YRT are suburban transit/commuter rail systems, where most people have cars to perform their daily tasks, only taking transit to work because it saves on parking for the whole day. The TTC in contrast is...
