    Bathurst Streetcar

I always thought the same thing, I live at Eglinton and Marlee, and work at Ontario Place. I could never understand why I had to get off at Bathurst Stn when the tracks went all the way up to St Clair West, which would simplify the trip home immensely.

    Toronto | 1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

Is this actually true? Or has "doorgate" slowed down delivery? I think they need to roll out either the TR or the new streetcars, maybe that will help win back the public's trust.

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

Smitherman would seem to be at least tolerable as mayor, except he seems to want to steal Rossi's thunder by contracting out garbage and TTC routes to please the suburbs. Lost my vote right there.

    Toronto Council Races - 2010

I've never understood Vaughan's war on the clubs, I don't go there much anymore, but why not let young people have their fun? Too many condos will suck the life out of the urban core, there needs to be a proper balance.

    TCHC: Lawrence Heights Revitalization

To answer that question, I deliberately chose to live at Eglinton and Marlee with roomates, and take the subway up to York every day. It's only about 40 minutes to get there, and probably even less from Lawrence Heights. Marketing the area to students is a great idea, as I know plently of...

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

That may be true, but he seems to be trying for the angry suburbanite vote. Look at his policies, why stop Transit City? Its the only real TTC improvement we've seen in a while, not to mention that it also wants to use urban and land use planning to make the suburbs more pedestrian and transit...

    Toronto Council Races - 2010

The problem with this is that the ballot will become unusually large, meaning that citizens will become confused, our current ward system is superior since you have a defined slate of candidates in your area, thus you can hold them to account. Don't blame the system for the fact turnout is low...

    "Urban" vs. "suburban"

Thats a good criteria. A lot of the 'suburban' parts of Toronto (Scarborough, North York) used to have a lot a streefron retail, at least at main intersections, until the 60's on average. These remnants of the villiage centres were ripped down to build the godawful suburbia of today.

    Toronto byelection

Regardless of Mr. Murray's record, he really does seem like an opportunist. Come on, being parachuted into a safe Liberal seat, it's really no contest.

    Toronto Council Races - 2010

Yeah, John Sewell should indeed make a return to council.......on a side note, I think that there are still a number of wards with no challengers to the incumbents, does anyone know which wards?

Number Of Jobless In The City Soars

I think that fact is the single most damaging thing for Toronto. We live here because we like to be able to use transit or our own two feet to get around. Having to work in Markham negates that entirely, it's a wasteland up there! I hope the next mayor can have a credible plan to deal with this.

    "Urban" vs. "suburban"

Oh I'm sorry, yes it was included. Goes to show that I should look closer.......I'd like to add in the stretch of Kingston Rd between Midland and Danforth Rd. It has a few walkable streetfront shopping areas. But regardless, the parts of Scarborough that can be considered urban are few and far...

    "Urban" vs. "suburban"

There are even parts of Scarborough with a more urban feel. I'm thinking of the Victoria Park and Kingston Road area, and the rest of Southwest Scarborough. You can actually get places without using a car, as opposed to say....McCowan and Steeles for example. In fact, using the level of...

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

I sincerely hope that it was a career ending speech for Rocco. I have never seen a more nauseating platform from a major municipal candidate. For all his talk about inclusion, he is just the candidate of suburbanites. Now for the record, I live in Scarborough, but I would like to see a mayor who...

Post your ideas for a better Toronto.

I would like to see property taxes revamped from their current market value assesment to a "sprawl tax". Essentially, the more the neighbourhood sprawls, the more tax one pays. Hopefully this will remove the current imbalance that has young families being priced out of the downtown core...

    St Lawrence Market

Agreed! Although I heard that there are waiting lists on the low rise condos in the area.....I'm assuming they're condos.

Toronto's scorecard for the 00s: (H)aught or Naught?

Good: David Miller: Finally a mayor who cares about transit, walkable urban environments and the general quality of life in the city. He does have a temper, but I think that it's balanced out by his good qualities. Waterfront: Went from being derelict to one of the most desirable...

    Birch Cliff (Kingston/Warden)

This is exciting! I grew up in Scarborough and found that this area was the only part that had urban potential. Nice to see shorter blocks a la Jane Jacobs.........hopefully no big box plazas get developed, the GTA has had enough of that.

Toronto Toronto | Sherbourne Common, Canada's Sugar Beach, and the Water's Edge Promenade | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto | Teeple Architects

My girlfriend lives just east of there, on McCowan. I agree with you that it is better than 'traditional' suburban development, I'm just skeptical that the suburbs can ever really be made into true cities. The attempt may be well meaning, but people up there simply don't WANT intesification.

Downtown Markham is NOT good intesification. It reminds me of the Scarborough Town Centre, just going to be more big box stores.
