Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

The solution would be to entice clubs to other parts of the downtown core, so that there isn't such a large volume of people in a one or two block radius. Closing down the entire district however, is bad public policy, as a 'world class city' as council likes to refer to Toronto; needs a world...

Ontario campuses get $200 million facelift

I wonder if any meaningful cash is being directed towards York U, or is the current labour dispute making it too risky.

Guildwood is a decent part of Scarborough I must admit, although it's a bit far from the subway for my taste.

    Corktown

    Shame

In fact, I tend to agree. There ARE far to many clubs in one block for the police to keep everyone safe, but I object to the anger at dance clubs in general.

    Corktown

The little family produce shops, really bring streetlife to a neighborhood, lets hope Corktown gets some!

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

Does anyone else see that the same councillors (with a few exceptions) keep getting reelected? Also notice that the same Toronto MP's and MPP's also win repeatedly. WHAT IS WRONG WITH US! I live in Joe Volpe's federal riding, the man is sleazy and corrupt, yet continues to win!

Anyplace you serve alcohol there are bound to be idiots, the only question I have (which has still not been answered) is why dance clubs are exclusively singled out. Bars and pubs have trouble too, but are not given the high profile that clubs are in the media.

I admit I'm a bit predjudiced against the burbs.......only because I used to live there! and I got my information from a Globe and Mail article.

    Next Mayor of Toronto?

Hmmmm, I agree with all of this, but there is the problem of selling this to the suburbanites. (Like someone else said) My parents live in Scarborough, and pretty much live in their cars. You should hear my dad complain about lost lanes of traffic!

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

How so? It's somehow ok for older people to do this sort of thing, while young people are not allowed to dance and party? It seems to me that Vaughan is not thinking in terms of the city as a whole, but only his NIMBY neighbours.

    Toronto Entertainment District

Grey I would like to know why the TO club scene is pathetic. You just have to know where to go. Tryst is a classy venue on Peter street. Of course you have the drunken hooligans,(and I really don't like them!) but that takes place in any city. On a side note, how come dance clubs get unfairly...

    York

Parts of York may be a bit shabby, especially around Marlee and Eglinton where I live, but at least you are close to the subway, and a frequent bus route on Eglinton. The area defenately has potential.

Very true, I've only recently moved out of Scarborough.......back there, you would be hard pressed to even see a neighbor except getting in their car for the morning commute. The really sad thing is that Scarborough isn't all that bad compared to the 'real' suburbs.

I think it's interesting that crime is falling in the city, but rising in the 905. The 'safe' suburbs will see a huge spike in crime, I think, due, to lifeless big box plazas, and lack of walkable neighborhoods, factors that leave people feeling small, insignificant and alienated.

Death of Clubland (aka: Is Adam Vaughan trying to kill the Club District?)

Before I begin my comment on this whole issue, I would like to point out a few things, before I am categorised as a 'rowdy suburbanite'. I love going clubbing, as opposed to bars or pubs, which I find mindlessly boring. I also live at Eglinton and Bathurst, and so am not a suburbanite at all...
