Umm, no, that's wrong. The maximum is NOT 500m. That'd only be the maximum if everyone lived on the arterial road with the line. I think that 2 stops/1km in places with 1km block widths (i.e. in Scarborough) or 3 stops/2km in places with 2km block widths is about optimal.

Well sure, but remember that if stops were 600m apart, there would be plenty of people that would still have to walk a lot more than half the distance between stops to actually get to a stop. If we did 1 stop/km it'd sure be faster, but at the same time 1 stop/2km would be even faster and 1...

Fewer stops means further to walk to get to the vehicle which very well might equal a longer trip. Obviously at the other extreme (Spadina Streetcar) you're spending a lot of time stopped, but there has to be a happy medium. I think the 3 stops/2km (I know that was the case on Finch at least) is...

Well currently vehicle deliveries are scheduled to begin just less than a year from now... the Sheppard LRT cars (along with the Finch cars) were never canceled.

Just did some Googling. It looks like one pair was to begin on Eglinton (as is happening now) and the other was to do Sheppard first then Eglinton. That answers that.. so I guess they'll just be ready for Eglinton earlier than originally planned. Too bad we'll probably get less use out of...

One funny realization is that the Don Mills-Vic Park tunnel would have been finished about a year and a half from now with the Sheppard LRT. Say, what's up with the TBM's ordered for that project?

I know this has been discussed before, but what's going to happen with the Transit City vehicles now that the Sheppard line has been shelved? Aren't the cancellation fees going up exponentially? The first vehicle is supposed to be delivered exactly a year from now (Dec 2012) with the second...

So does the province intend to pay to operate the line then or are they just going to send the city the bill?

Agreed, but not every stop will get one... most notably, routes that have 20-30 minute frequencies probably won't get them despite being quite useful for those that rely or want to be able to rely on those routes.

I think that it's too bad that they're thinking of charging for text messages in excess of two.... I use more than that even with streetcar only access. Should they have chosen not to do that I think that it could've made regular usage of buses with an infrequent headway (20-30 mins) much...

Well the people who are acting as collectors because of injuries would still be paid.. the TTC doesn't actually hire anyone to be collectors

It has nothing to do with their networks... the RFID chip is in the phone. The phone then simply identifies your credit card account (as rbt said).
