Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

Wasn't the mockup supposed to come Spring 2011?

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

I think last fare increase timed transferred were estimated to cost about 20 million (going by the fact that this fare increase is supposed to increase revenue by $24 million, that'd be just south of 9 cents/fare).

Exactly. Quote from Torontoist: "We can't get to zero property taxes without the [TTC] fare increase." —City manager Joe Pennachetti,

    March 2011 TTC Service Cutbacks

@Paleo Yup, that's why I said "(even ignoring the fact that the reallocation would be at different times of the day)" :) I guess I was just working with their claims, though I agree that believing them might not be the best idea,...

    March 2011 TTC Service Cutbacks

This is the first round.. what about next time? Thinking about it today, I really don't understand the 'reallocation of resources' idea (even ignoring the fact that the reallocation would be at different times of the day). A good number of the listed routes don't use too many vehicles; some...

    March 2011 TTC Service Cutbacks

I know they've spoken about shifting the money to busy routes, but the Toronto Star story says "The move is supposed to save $7 million this year". I don't see how they can save money if they're reallocating it.

    TTC Fare increase being considered

From the numbers in the Toronto Star it seems that the services cuts wouldn't have to happen if fares went up a further 2.9 cents (7 million savings from the eliminations; $24 million taken in from a 10 cent fare increase). Doesn't the Sheppard Subway lose $10 million/year, with the Vaughan...

    TTC Fare increase being considered

There's going to be a fairly massive service decrease too.. http://spacingtoronto.ca/2011/01/10/ttc-proposes-fare-increase-service-cuts/

    Transit City Plan

Phew. At least we don't lose anything important. Unless you live along Finch or commute along it. Ah well, who cares. As long as we can get to STC a touch faster! As long as you live near one of the six new stations of course. Otherwise you'd be rather screwed since there probably won't be much...

    Transit City Plan

Steve Munro points to a Globe & Mail poll that puts councillor support as follows: Pro Transit City: 14 Transit City + Tweaks: 4 Subways: 11 Unknown: 15 Any ideas on what the remaining councillors are likely to support based on their campaigns? Obviously Doug Ford is a 'Subways' vote and...

    Transit City Plan

spaced.. I agree to some extent, but at the same time Ford's primary argument during the campaign was about cutting spending. This subway plan will cause a lot of contract cancelation fees - the exact opposite of that mandate. So, if council supports Ford, I expect his rather large 48% win...

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Urbandreamer... I don't think that anyone is saying that Scarborough in particular shouldn't get rapid transit. Ford's plan gives Scarborough rapid transit.. but pretty much shuts the rest of the city out (vs the network of lines for all parts of the city in Transit City). When you reference...

    New Streetcars

You imply a priority pretty clearly. You imply that since cars accelerate faster than streetcars, that streetcars have no/less claim to use street space. What I was pointing out is that I feel that streetcars have more of a right to street space/time since of their increased carrying capacity...

    New Streetcars

Why, at any given intersection, should a streetcar with 120 people not be given priority over 10 or 20 cars? It's not an issue of loving or hating cars, it's simply an issue of moving more people in a given space. If that incidentally slows down some cars, well, that's an unfortunate byproduct...

    Status of Transit City projects

I believe so? I think they're fully Metrolinx funded.
