York Region Transit: Viva service thread

I live near the 102D route, while I always seem to see the bus when driving around, I'm sure it'd never be there if I was trying to ride it. YRT has gone done the gutter completely in the last few years, it's like they pooled all their eggs into the Viva service, which even that has had service...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Right now those trains that terminate at Unionville, they just sit at the platform and immediately turn back around to head to Union nonstop, it doesn't go on any tailing track or anything. No reason that can't be done at Mount Joy if that becomes the all day terminus. I agree with earlier...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Yeah I'm a bit surprised they don't make the usual Presto sound on GO buses, sometimes when it's loud you don't know if you really tapped on or not. All the other units make that Presto sound..

Trains or streetcars up middle of DVP?

I was just looking at a map, much of the southern track follows the DVP and river anyway, there would be no real purpose to do this as it's probably easier to double up the existing track. It would be more expensive to build this on an existing highway that has no real gap for the most part for...

Trains or streetcars up middle of DVP?

That would be interesting, but is there even room to do this on much of the DVP? Though Allen Road is no one's poster boy for road and transit. If it's possible, heck maybe this can be part of the GO RER for the Richmond Hill line.

    Mayor John Tory's Toronto

I had a little chuckle when I saw this on John Tory's profile on the mayor's page. Mayor Tory is a lifelong, and long-suffering, Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Mayor Tory and his wife Barbara have been married for 32 years. They raised their four children, John Jr, Chris, Susan and George in Toronto...

I will be very upset if there is not a Cinnabon store in the new concourse.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

I guess that can be possible too. Though I think it'd probably be more likely to have mandatory tapping to board each vehicle or station. It will still require that logic to be written in somewhere, whether it is the farebox or the unit the inspectors use.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

As a programmer, trying to write logic to handle the TTC's transfer rules will just be a hot mess. Just imagine the fare disputes since everything will be stored in the card, at least with a paper transfer the driver or collector can just wave you through. Just imagine going through a huge list...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

This would probably be the simplest implementation. The complicated fare rules that try to reduce lost revenue also require education and enforcement which isn't free.

Roads: Keep the Gardiner, fix it, or get rid of it? (2005-2014)

Just try driving downtown on a weekend when the Gardiner is closed as it often is in the summer. Imagine it being 2 or 3 times worse if it was a weekday.

Roads: Keep the Gardiner, fix it, or get rid of it? (2005-2014)

Just food for thought, even now parking downtown on the weekends isn't even that expensive, often can be had for $5-10. A round trip GO fare will cost more than parking, though of course there's the cost of gas as well. But I don't think we can really even entertain the thought of demolishing...

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

This already exists at Union for the subway, they have some Presto readers on the wall next to where the employee is often daydreaming.

    Toronto Toronto | Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

That would be helpful too, but I don't think the Kitchener trains have service outside the morning/afternoon rush. Hell, I just looked and there already is all day GO bus service to Malton station as well, surely they can add another stop at the airport.

    Toronto Toronto | Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

That would be useful for people going to/from downtown. Sounds so simple, another thing that should've been done decades ago. But with Metrolinx also operating the UPX, this will probably not happen because they would effectively be competing with themselves by having $7 bus or $19 train.

    Toronto Toronto | Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

That would actually be quite useful, and an easy win. Or at least offer LINK bus shuttles to the station as well. I didn't even realize until recently that a GO station is fairly close to the airport.

Hah, but then again it really has been a disaster. Weren't the streetcars supposed to be back last year? Hopefully at least it looks decent when it's done.

Public transit fares in Ontario don't have taxes, so there won't be HST. It would be like the same as taking GO or TTC.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

10-15 years ago there actually was a second track at Markham GO, I think they removed it to reduce maintenance costs. But if we are ever to get GO RER, the stations are probably going to be rebuilt anyway so it isn't that big of a deal.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

As someone above said, these transit smart cards usually are not always online and constantly synced, while actual stations can probably be instant, when we are talking about buses that travel a huge geographic area, it becomes difficult (though not impossible with current technology). It's not...
