Fairmont is an operator who also owns certain hotels they could have picked it up in personal interest. But possibly they have interest in the north building I'm doubting that, however, this property is a development nightmare!!!
Honestly I don't see this property even receiving a proposal for development for the next 10-15 years. I feel this is a short sighted decision for Accorhotels and more importantly the fairmont. I'm surprised there wasn't an under the table deal between the two organizations.
I figured with the RA9 it will be taller however the lot isn't that big. Honestly thought an 8 storey would have been great on that location. mix of engaged TH's on the street and maybe a coffee shop on the corner with some decent condos on top.
Can someone explain to me how DOSC was able to alter the exterior finishings of the building by adding the neon signs? I'm not opposed I just thought it was a protected historically designated site?
Well I live in the building beside this the Time Square building. It's interesting that's for sure. This would definitely help the area out. There's some interesting stuff that goes on in that Parking lot late at night. I enjoy the entertainment.
It would be fun if Melcor would just let them incorporate the diamond in the new building and call it a day. Heard Melcor tried to purchase this building on numerous occasions. If they would Melcor would own most of the block with a strong redevelopment potential in play.
So from what I read on this tread this project is now as a rental? Are we sure it's not just the units committed to rental (The owner was offering management of rentals at a guaranteed price for 24 months)? Is it something other than that?
They are definitely tight units I expect maximum sliding doors if any but when you walk beside the site and realize they are fitting 4 units on that tiny floor plate you understand why there are only sliding doors.
I have to agree with you @Daveography it is definitely the most interesting project in Edmonton and I don't know much about Calgary at the moment. I wonder what their construction timeline looks like.
