    Toronto Parks

Here is a document about the park I was mentioning above with quite a few renderings and commentary about the design (via M.I.T.'s ArchNet portal): http://archnet.org/library/pubdownloader/pdf/10649/doc/DPC1962.pdf

Looks like they are starting to put up a few trees on the Wynford Park development. You may recall a prior mention of this - a museum and cultural centre in the midst of a park. 17 acre site in total. Anyway, the interesting side is that while the construction project is not expected to...

This is what I was talking about in my note yesterday: http://simerg.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/aga_khan_trees_1a.jpg All credits to Jim Bowie. I understand work is progressing at a torrent pace and that it likely looks quite different today from the above pic two days ago.

I saw some of your pics from yesterday on another site. Noticed a couple things beyond the trees. 1. Scaffolding on the East end of the museum (where they had applied the black coating and then a rigid layer of pink material). There are also pallets of what looks like stone exterior...

Great set Jim! I've noticed with several AK projects that the landscaping, relatively speaking, comes in quite early. It is nice to see such importance placed on this aspect of site development.

Slippy - would be good to see this angle with all the work that has happened since your last pic.

Thanks! So do you suppose they are doing some materials testing? Seems odd that they only applied that black sealant on the one end, and are now applying the next layer to the same end while the rest of the building waits. I suppose whatever is going to hold the final exterior material on the...

In addition to the new 'pink' layer, looks like quite a bit of advancement on the inner glass layer of the prayer hall's glass roof. Also, some of the scaffolding around the frame of the cultural centre entry / drop-off area has also been removed.

Does any one have access to the development / building permits that detail the construction, with materials and other details that we've not already heard about?

Fantastic update Jim! Thank-you. Here is a selection of Jim's images off of Flickr - all rights and credits to Jim Bowie: all rights and credits - Jim Bowie

You can really see in this image how the profile of the inner frame for the glass is quite a contrast from that of the outside. On the outside it is quite linear, where as the inside glass follows a curved profile, almost creating a tent / marquee type feeling on the inside. Will be...

One thing I've noticed about Maki's designs, such as we see below in the Delegation of the Ismaili Imamat in Ottawa, is that they are thoughtful about how the roof looks from above also. Many designers would simply have exposed HVAC and other utilities clearly visible, but that is not the case...

Awesome. I believe that is the dome of the performance theatre / auditorium. There also seems to be a lot going on on the cultural centre dome (pyramid type structure). Nothing changing at the macro level quite yet there. Prep to add glass? While it is on the far reaches of the images...

You know what would be really neat - is if they used the angled walls to project images off of. Maybe even have that as part of evening shows from the gardens on summer evenings :)

Thanks Jim for the latest pictures - they are a window into a portion of the project that we actually know the least about. It seems to me that we've seen more renderings and gotten more information about the Museum portion of the project as compared to the Cultural Centre portion. I wish the...

Seems a lot of the externally visible structural work is happening now on the cultural centre side of the project. Here is a July 30 pic from Jim: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cobby17/5992118219/sizes/l/in/photostream/ Wouldn't mind seeing a daytime view now, including closer views of the...

Hint ... If you follow Jim's photos on flickr, you can sometimes see construction updates in the background of his pictures of his jumping cat and cute dog Tucker around his balcony :)

I'm looking forward to glass! But I think there is still a ways to go. From what I've seen on some of Jim's newer pictures on flickr, it looks like quite a bit has been happening on the roof of the museum. Frames for some of the details have been going in. Hard to see progress on the domed...
