    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

Must be a misunderstanding, I’m talking about reviving this spur east of Atherley and going to Orillia that way

    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

The old ROW for the Newmarket Subdivision still entirely exists as a trail, if you can bypass downtown Barrie it is theoretically possible to revive the route to Orillia. Though tbh it’s probably more practical to just revive the spur from the Bala sub to Orillia

    General railway discussions

I'm curious as to what the fate will be for these rails. I was there recently (my grandparents live in the area) and the rails clearly have not be used for quite some time. I'm thinking they might end up like the rails through Orillia and become a part of the trail

    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

100%. I’d argue that service to Niagara, Kitchener, Guelph and even maybe Barrie doesn’t fit into the mandate and yet these have all been very successful and net positives to the communities they serve. Things will change and mandates should change to adapt. After all, in areas where railroads...

    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

The rails between Utopia and Allandale will remain for the foreseeable future, so this doesn’t seem like too far fetched of an idea in about 5-10 years maybe (albeit rails to Angus will likely have to be rebuilt)

With the Niagara Falls train having been a success I think there’s a good reason to believe more tourist services could succeed. If only we didn’t keep destroying our own infrastructure.

    Barrie Collingwood Railway (BCRY)

Not to mention there’s more people along this corridor than that Owen Sound sub. Honestly as a Simcoe Resident I’d be happy with the prospect of a trail if it didn’t rule out future rail service. This seems like such a short sighted decision, much more so than the OBRY imho

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

We have lots of “good trails” already. Hurontario isn’t a good thing for longer distance service. It’s more for shorter, local trips. The Owen Sound sub goes through some decent areas (specifically downtown Brampton) and south Caledon is supposed to get a decent amount of development along the...

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

Reminds me of how GO service to Orillia back in the 90s was a long goal for GO. Nowadays that’s impossible because the rails between Barrie and Orillia are long gone. Now the best they can hope for is some better bus service from Linx. Good work guys

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

Not surprising they’re wanting to rid themselves of all industry and build subdivisions since their mayor is a realtor

    Durham Region Transit / Pulse

reading some of the comments on this petition..... I'm not one for petty insults most of the time, but these people are absolute morons

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

Long term pain for short term gain is the way things are done in this province

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

It also connects to the Galt Sub (Milton Line) around Streetsville. If the missing link is built and CP Rail agrees to use it and allow more rail service through central Mississauga they can maybe use it for something then maybe they can run trains through to north Brampton and maybe southern...

    Caledon-Vaughan GO Rail Line

The original report that deemed the Barrie Line the most feasible route is over a decade old now, with the Weston sub being quad tracked among other things I imagine it’s in a much better position to handle 3 passenger rail lines at this point
  15. Nomad_87

    Caledon-Vaughan GO Rail Line

Fair enough, the feasibility study did show that while feasible the service didn’t exactly have an incredible return on investment so they’re probably waiting for the area to be built up more. Still, with the amount of freight traffic on the MacTier sub plus the fact that it’s mostly single...

    Caledon-Vaughan GO Rail Line

It's not entirely off the table, just not seriously being considered at this moment. Especially considering how unpleasant CP Rail is to work with

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

No definitive answer yet, but apparently it’s coming soon
  18. Nomad_87

    Caledon-Vaughan GO Rail Line

Caledon seems to be the only entity keeping this idea alive. Metrolinx and all other parties look to have moved on a while ago. Still, not a terrible idea by any means as long as they can get Canadian Pacific on-board with it.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The OBRY corridor has a place imho, it travels right through the middle of Peel Region which has 1.5 million people and as it is expected to grow a good transit corridor could be useful. We've lost so many good rail lines over the years to short sighted decision making, let's not continue to...

Maps of Toronto's old rail lines?

I humbly disagree. We've lost so many good corridors which we could have used for new transit projects today. The Don Branch could be a valuable connector between the North Toronto subdivision and Union if passenger rail service is ever allowed on the midtown corridor, such as for VIA's High...
