Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Threw together a quick diagram of what could be a good eastern extension alignment. I think that Sheppard's two options are really to either retrofit the line as an LRT, or to just continue extending it as the existing heavy rail line. Don Mills is just not a good transfer point - Agincourt and...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Got a Notice of Public Information Centre in the mail today for the 400-404 Link project. The notice says the MTO and AECOM "will review and assess environmental commitments made during the previous 2002 approved Route Planning EA Study, as well as assess any new impacts and prescribe new...

They should really include a new school in this development, maybe even in the first phase, just because of how fast nearby neighbourhoods are going to grow... especially if the nearby stretch of Sheppard starts intensifying as well.

    TTC: Jane (LRT) RapidTO

Maybe if there is an interchange with a Line 2 extension somewhere between the 427 and Vansco Road. The biggest problem with running it along the 427 is there wouldn't be much in the way of east-west connections along the route, except possibly a Dundas BRT connection.

    TTC: Jane (LRT) RapidTO

Huh?? I don't think there's ever been a mention of it going in that direction. Its western terminus to start with will be on the Lakeshore West corridor, so most likely it will end up continuing westwards. If not, we will likely have all-day two-way service to Bramalea by the time it's extended...

What a disaster. The first proposal could have been way better for the area, with not only more units but also a more classic, pseudo-Victorian feel. I usually love this architectural style but I can't say it's the best pick for downtown Oakville.

I think development in this part of the town is inevitable, but there's the potential to make a plan that is less futuristic idealism and more organized and deliverable. Ditch the concentric circle roads and sprawling lots. Focus on making an actually walkable, family-oriented community.

Oh, just what Toronto needs: more single-storey self-storage buildings. I understand that you're not going to be able to get any apartments or storefronts on a site like this, but are the logistics for second-storey units that bad?

In my opinion a great way to improve the public realm for many major roads is to take out a couple lanes. Fewer lanes mean fewer potholes.

    Toronto 5951 Steeles East | 13.73m | 1s | Jim Pattison Group | Ware Malcomb

Looks gaudy and dated. I've seen more aesthetically appealing retail centres here in Bradford. Kill it with fire, or at least leave the land east of the State Crown extension alone.

    Toronto Toronto | Rail Deck District | 227.23m | 70s | Craft Dev Corp | Sweeny &Co

I'd wager that a site called "Global Construction Review" would rather talk about highrises than public services. And given the apparent lack of research into the proposal...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Bradford has designated nearly everything along Holland Street east of Melbourne/Professor Day as an area to be intensified, and a few of the single-family homes in that area and along Barrie Street are now slated for intensification. The issue is with most of the land near the GO station being...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Is the Bradford Bypass proposal overbuilding? Possibly. But cancelling it outright would further strangle Bradford's downtown. Holland Street in older parts of town is incredibly hostile for pedestrians, making redevelopment and economic activity in the downtown unpalatable. Pressure on the town...

    Transit Fantasy Maps

If I'm not mistaken, this map was made using BrandNewSubway, which uses map data that doesn't designate every collector road at this zoom level. That includes Pharmacy, McNicoll/Cummer, and parts of King and Queen downtown.

Future of the York Memorial Collegiate building

Why would they sell off the George Harvey property? Most of the demand for high-rises will be along Eglinton, with the Crosstown already spurring development. I think that will end up increasing the school population in this part of the city in time.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Bill Foster is right - we need a road solution in this area, but our way of thinking has changed since the old highway proposal. Maybe a 4-lane Donald Cousens-style parkway would work here as well.

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Oh joy. That just means places even further away from the actual station will have mid-rise proposals that get shot down by the local community. This is something the municipalities need to fix, through revising their definitions of low-density and medium-density, and other smaller-scale...

    Toronto Toronto | Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

The whole area from Summitcrest Drive to Poplar Heights/Eden Valley/Allanhurst should really be redesignated to allow missing middle development. The street layout just needs a couple tweaks to make a sort of urban grid, and houses fronting on wide greenspace corridors should be assembled into...
