Article: 231 Richmond East To Be Redeveloped As 18 Storey Condo By Lamb Development?

We should be happy Toronto is experiencing the condo boom. In the early 1990's when office vacancy skyrocketted we were rushing to convert B and C buildings to residential. Yes, more rental product would help to balance offerings but vibrant cities are based way more on residential property than...

Trees Come To A Revitalized Bloor Street

We need more of this. Doesn't need to be granite but if we want trees to survive beyond the 10 year average for city trees (AND WE DO!!!!) we need longer beds. Look at Chicago. Their beds line entire streets, with small cut throughs of sidewalk to the curb. We do the opposite in Toronto and get...

Article: A Look At Pure Plaza's (Formerly Plazacorp) West Harbour City Condos

VERY well done. The tower could use a better street presence but the mid-rise portion's use of townhouses to address the street is excellent. The tower's detail and choice of materials is great and a nice departure from the typical glass curtain wall. The building's short side faces the water to...

Article: New View Of The Flatiron As Construction On Concert Properties' The Berczy C

An EXCELLENT and VERY appropriate design for this neighborhood. Retail podium, stepback after 4th level, materials. Preservation of the historic building on the site. We need more of these. Towers do little for the livelihood of our cities if they don't relate to the streets, like this building.

Article: Urban Toronto Tours Tower Hill's Churchill Park Condos

Agreed. GREAT use of materials and attention to detail. We need more of this and should demand more of this when approving buildings BUT we should also demand more response to our streets and sidewalks. The ground level is brutal. Aside from the additional floor-to-floor height, the building...

Article: Casa Loma Revitalization Takes A New

I was getting so steamed until I read the first comment and realized I'd been had. Looks like a building from one of the first Sim City games.

Article: Toronto Reference Library Renovation By Moriyama & Teshima Architects Contin

I don't know what the library looked like before but the Eaton Centre's design before was brutal and paid no attention to the street. It it weren't so large, it would have closed within years, as urban malls are dinosaurs and almost never work. We need active streets, with storefronts and public...

    Article: Waterlink at Pier 27 (25 Queen's Quay E, Fernbrook/Cityzen, 2 or 4x 14s, aA)

Street Activity Could not agree with you more "WallofSound." I wish more people talked about this kind of stuff. We get so obsessed with density and aesthetic (both important) but we forget that it's the street level that creates successful neighborhoods.

Article: Monarch Announces Lago Condos on the Etobicoke Waterfront

Beautiful building BUT it sits in a useless patch of grass, with no relationship to the street. Aside from the density, this building does nothing to encourage a vibrant, walkable, urban community. No one wants to walk along along streets when buildings fail to create a sense of place. This...
